I teared up a little and I don't cry about anything anymore. I'd offer to offer my perspective, but I'm a Cali-boy - Eastern Time disagrees with me. I'm not in NY but if he ever needs to speak to a gay perverted Uke wannabe Psychologist I'm a PM/yahoo messenger away. Any time. Day or night. I'm essentially glued to my keyboard and I'm Hero of Caffine, I don't sleep. I'm sure everyone else here is here for him too if he needs it..
...Then again, "pervert" should probably be bolded, italicized and underlined in flashing red letters.

That is such a wonderful story, both what you told Trina and Ian coming out to you. (BTW, I love your use of the word "fancy." Works very well here. )

That would definitely be good, and absolutely advisable. Hopefully nothing bad will ever come of it but in the event shit gets serious he needs someone he can trust that he can get to quickly and who will act as a safe/secure place.
Edit: Again, since he's NY area now that I think about it.. you know God forbid it actually happen but if he needs it, tell him to save up $80-150. You can get pretty far on Amtrak for that, and the east has the Acella train. u.u why am I sayin' stuff like that? I've had to go over plans like this for other friends that never ended up panning out so its one of the few things I'm always crazy-prepared for.

Can I add you to my list of reasons to go to NYC (that's the right part of the country, yes?)? You seem like a great person to sit and have lunch with.

I can certainly relate to the fringe adult thing. I have a couple of cousins, 14 and 13, who I get along with extremely well. Granted, that's most likely because we're the only gamers in the family and to be honest I doubt they'd trust me with anything as major as a sexuality crisis, but all the same I'm 21 and find hanging around with them playing games on our laptops far more enjoyable than drinking wine and discussing personal drama and politics or whatever the fuck with the adults. Hell, one of the highlights of this year's Christmas was I bought each of them a copy of Terraria and they can't get enough of that game. It makes me proud.

For me, the teen years are a mixed bag. Some teens are pretty cool and intelligent, but some are so commercial-happy they get really stupid at that age. I majored in secondary ed mainly BECAUSE I find teens easier to relate to and explain things to than young children.
And yeah, I'm a fringe adult. To give an idea: Over the break, I've spent hours on doll-collecting and restoration sites, and worked on doll clothes and fixing the hair on my old Felicity doll. (Protip: NEVER machine-wash the Cardinal Cloak with anything else. The hideous '96 American Girl of Today Meet outfit was unharmed, but Felicity's flower garden Meet dress is badly stained. And this on the Delicate cycle!) I've also wanted to get a Twilight Sparkle My Little Pony figurine (and maybe a blank pony to turn into my OC, Zena) but am afraid of what people will say about an adult who teaches other adults buying a toy for 5-year-old girls.
And...yeah, you handled the whole "gay" thing superbly in both cases. I wish I had relatives that I feel safe coming out as bi to...but most of the ones who'd be cool with it are notorious gossips, or live with conservative parents who would immediately start heckling me about it.

Wow, I feel the same way. Though I'm not outgoing, nor do I have any younger cousins, I find myself more and more sympathetic toward teenagers. I even started a thread on it. fstdt.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=10739It's funny because when I was that age, I was more like the grumpy old man who hated most kids my age. I was kind of an asshole and thought I was better than everyone else. Keep in mind I had conservative beliefs and thought adults knew best. But once I got online and started questioning things, I realized that many adults are closed minded and ignorant about things. Hell, even my own parents were pretty ignorant regarding some things (such as the internet). Teenagers are annoying and all that, but honestly, "moral" adults aren't that much better. They're just better at coming across as "right" than hormone driven teenagers. I mean yeah, drugs are stupid, you should not give into peer preasure, and you should think things through before go through with them. On the other hand, denying teens things they need, like privacy, and emotional outlets (like the internet), is just ignorant and stupid. I see this all the time online. Luckly, I didn't experience this too much, but I've heard horror stories of parents guilting their kids into living the life they want for them. All so they can live vicariously through them. Pitiful.
