...made in RL next? First, the communicator came along in the form of cellular phones; now, there's this excellent piece of potential technology based somewhat on the tricorder: io9.com/5276720/star-treks-tricorder-may-be-here-sooner-than-you-thinkI've got no formal medical training, but I still think this is incredibly cool. ADDENDUM: Hmm. This invention came from a division of the Department of Homeland Security. Who'd have thunk it...they actually did something that didn't rape our already-eroded rights and priveleges!

well you know those funky air pressure things they are always pressing to people's necks in place of injections? They already have something that can shoot medicine directly through your skin like that. I hear it stings like a bitch though.

Apparently does in the new film, at any rate.

Apparently does in the new film, at any rate. I suppose they might have been more accurate than I thought. I found a site for one that uses one time use ampules full of medicine that you just snap off the tip and press it to your arm and it injects it right through the skin. www.markpascua.com/2008/10/01/mothers-kiss-injection-without-needles/

Yeah, those directly-through-the-skin things have been around for a LONG time.

Yeah, those directly-through-the-skin things have been around for a LONG time. In fact, they predate the original Star Trek series, IIRC.

That gadget is pretty cool. As is that mother's kiss thing. Also, don't forget the PHaSR or the PEP, which look to be pretty good step towards phasers. Just need a little more refinement and a more compact power supply, the latter of which also appears to be in development.

I'm waiting for holodecks. I think I'll wait until said holodecks have reduntent safety features, thanks. I don't want some sort of subspace anomaly or some bullshit to come along and disable the anti-killer part of the holodeck.

Does anyone who ever watched Star Trek really think all holodeck activities were as wholesome as they showed on the show?
I'm willing to bet Riker, at least, had regular holo-orgies starring as many female crewmates as he could program in at one time. And when he got bored with them, he moved on to outdoing Kirk's conquests.

I'm pretty sure if holodecks were real, that's what most people would be using them for.

Just like the Internet.
All together now!
"The internet is for porn! The internet is for porn! Just grab your dick and double-click for porn, porn, porn!"

I'm pretty sure if holodecks were real, that's what most people would be using them for. Which is why I'd never go into one, unless they also had some sort of self-cleaning protocol. There's also the PADD, which can be seen in the form of PDAs, ebooks, palmtops, ets. Though I'm pretty sure early PDAs may technically predate the PADD on Star Trek.

One thing I'm waiting for: Stable and reliable mass-production of anti-matter.
