The fact that I've recently gotten a 2nd anime site to work for me has encouraged me. I think next week, I'll search for a site where I can watch Bleach in English, rather than continue straining my eyes on a line of text at the bottom of the screen. The dubbed version of Bleach is physically painful to watch, the voice-acting and the attempts to re-characterise half the characters by giving them different intonation patterns makes it bloody unwatchable Umm...what? I'm sorry, but most of the characters sound basically the same in the English, & I don't know what "re-characterization" is going on. Hitsugaiya, I'm sort of 50/50 on. Most of the time, though, I prefer the English. Japanese Ikkaku has the most annoying fucking voice I've ever heard. Worse than English 13-year-old Naruto.

I've noticed that the Japanese voices sound much higher and squeakier than the English voices. Case in point being Rei from Sailor Moon. Her Japanese voice sounds like a pre-pubesant girl on helium while her English voice sounds much more normal.

I was terribly annoyed by Naruto's voice at first but I quickly grew to like it for some reason. That may have affected my perception of voice acting that other people find irritating. I have a slight preference for Japanese Ikkaku. I don't have much of a problem with the dubbed version though. I just don't watch it very often because the subtitled episodes are released earlier and because I just like the sound of the Japanese version better.

Ugh. Dubs. My first experience with those things was with *shudder* Sonic X, which was crappy enough by itself without the craptacular voices 4Kids! used. And then SEGA chopped its own wang off by replacing the regular VAs for the games with the 4Kids! VAs. Dicks.
I haven't heard any dubs for Higurashi, but I seriously doubt they can get any better than the Japanese version. :/ Except maybe for Keiichi...Maria in Umineko, on the other hand, would probably sound a LOT better in English, "oohn oohn" and all.

Impious: Urahara is a beach bum. I mean just look at him. That awesome hat, the not so awesome coat, the sandles and his voice confirm it.

Yeah, the way Urahara ACTS, his English voice isn't ill-fitting in any way. Especially since he suddenly becomes quite serious when...well, suddenly becoming quite serious.
As for Naruto, it did fit his character, so I can't complain TOO much. Actually, it's not too different in the Japanese.

I'm waiting for an episode where Urahara complains about his mascara running.

I wouldn't notice advances on me either if I was consistently fighting for my life against monster ghost things from Mexico.

The more determined she is, the more ass she can kick. *Tatsuke is a full-on tsundere who will beat the hell out of anyone that messes with whoever she has opted to "protect" regardless of time or place. *Rangiku can't swing her sword w/o almost popping out. Kinda hard not to notice things like that...
