Com on, we're not that bad! Oh wait, Rupert Murdock was born here. Mr Conformity of Opinion. We're seriously sorry for him. Really. He owns like all of our goddamn media, it's frigging ridiculous. If they only had blacklisted Murdoch... Imagine. Seriously, are Australians thinking this is A-Ok, real kosher? I can't tell you accurately. I can say that I'm not happy, and that none of my (pinko liberal journalism/liberal arts student) freinds are happy, but that's hardly a representative sample is it? I suggest asking Mr Gallup.

Wikileaks threatens Conroy with criminal prosecution: "Anti-censorship site Wikileaks has threatened Australian Communications Minister Senator Stephen Conroy with criminal prosecution if he attempts to discover the source of its leaked Australian Internet blacklist. Wikileaks says that under Swedish law it is a criminal offence to try to breach confidentiality agreements between the press and sources." We love you Wikileaks!

Noooooo! Yesterday I read through the whole list, I found a bunch of cool sites... Wait, let me try that again. Yesterday I read through the whole list, and counted how many of the banned sites I had visited in the past. Seventeen. Of course, me being me, it's hard to say if that's a mark for or against the accuracy of the list.

The list was taken from filtering software provided by the government. If you installed the free filtering software, you could locate a textfile called something like Websites_ACMA.txt. That's the source of the blacklist.

Why exactly is the government hellbent on forcing this censorship bullshit through anyway? WTF do they think they're going to gain aside from making the next election a much much harder for them that it should be?
Honestly, the priorities of the government astounds me sometimes.

That's the source of the blacklist. Gee, Is that all it took? Incidentally I see wikileaks has an updated version of the list (I hadn't been able to get through for a while) looks like they cleaned it up quite a bit. Of the 17 sites I mentioned having been to, only 7 are still on the list, not counting sites that only have a few pages blocked. But they added 2 more, so my total stands at 9 now.

"DESPITE his denial last week, Communications Minister Stephen Conroy claims the leaked website blacklists published on Wikleaks now closely resemble the Government watchdog's official list." www.news.com.au/technology/story/0,28348,25240699-5014239,00.html
