As a Kos diarist said, the bill will save ~150,000 lives over the next decade, save over 100 billion dollars, and insure 30 million people. Sadly, a bullshit, back-of-napkin public option is all that's offered, which will probably be more expensive and less effective than the proven public option. And many of the other provisions, such as the anti-woman ammendments, are still there. However, hopefully that can be gradually expanded upon with Grayson's bill or future efforts. But, and most importantly, the fascists lost. Again, On something they were rabidly obsessed with for several months.

I'm hearing Republicans bitching about abortion with regards to the bill. What gives? I thought that pretty much everything relating to abortion was stripped from the bill and Obama issued an executive order saying that the government wouldn't pay for any abortions just for good measure.

What anti-women amendments are there?

....aren't you a paper boy? Not anymore. Last month the boss decided that it would be cheaper to have the papers go out in the mail rather than have us actually go and deliver them in person. One of the couriers lost his job entirely, and the rest of us now simply sit in the office and slap mailing labels on everything. Because of this transition, I've had my hours taken down by a third and my expense reimbursement has been virtually wiped out. If the boss decides to "balance the books" again, I'm out on the street.

It was the only thing they could hang there hat on in a last minute attempt to kill the bill.

skyfire sure has changed tune fairly quickly: You know how a lot of newspapers are sucking it up thanks to the recession? We're actually thriving, such that the boss is considering acquiring some property above and beyond our office space for the sake of purchasing his own press, that way we aren't having to perpetually rent time on someone else's machines. Not only will it save us money and time in regards to getting the papers each night (currently, the head courier has to go at least an hour each way to where the other press is), that's also going to mean more jobs for the city as someone is going to have to operate and maintain the equipment. On top of that, having our own press might mean we run the paper more often than just twice a week. Since those of us who deliver the paper are paid hourly, that will mean more $$$ for us. And depending on how things work, that might also mean hiring another driver or two since two of the current drivers have a hard external limit on the number of hours they can work each week (one is caring for his niece and has limited options for baby-sitting, while the other will lose his aid & disability money if he works too many hours). So instead of striking us down, Smith has only made us more powerful. 8)

So you work for a new paper company, which is seeing the whole industry dying. Please explain what in the health care bill will cause you to lose your job. Please be specific.

with Obamacare in place the resulting tax hikes and insurance premiums How could lower premiums possibly be a financial problem? If you wanted to pay even less for insurance, you should have fought for a real public option, rather than against it. Enjoy using the unemployment insurance your party opposes. Enjoy collective bargaining with your insurer, if you're allowed, because your party couldn't ban it. Have fun with the medicaid subsidies that your party tried to obstruct, and the other welfare programs that they universally oppose. If you do get a job, give a clap for Obama's successful attempts to stimulate the economy and reduce joblessness. Remember, when you don't starve and die, who did that for you.
