....aren't you a paper boy? Not anymore. Last month the boss decided that it would be cheaper to have the papers go out in the mail rather than have us actually go and deliver them in person. One of the couriers lost his job entirely, and the rest of us now simply sit in the office and slap mailing labels on everything. Because of this transition, I've had my hours taken down by a third and my expense reimbursement has been virtually wiped out. If the boss decides to "balance the books" again, I'm out on the street. Welcome to adult life.

Honestly, not to sound like a prick...but oh well. You'll have to get an actual job now that requires you to actually work vs rolling a window up and down. you still live at home anyways*, it's not like you're literally on the streets like so many are because of an administration you nearly creamed your pants over for eight fucking years *oh, I apologize kinda, you got kicked out...well, time to pull on them bootstraps...you're sleeping in the bed you supported being made, so really i've not that much sympathy. Everyone else got shafted, republicans shit on'em, it happens to republicans and then oh, it's a problem now

And who put us in this position I ask you Skyfire? Ironbite-I honestly want your answer in that because I'm sure it'll be just so informative. Clinton! No really... that birther dude who I'm friends with on facebook says that the recession was because of Clinton. "It started before 2000! and then Bush made it bounce back, but then Obama ruined it!" I like revisionists. Speaking of, I'd like to hear your answer sky. Clinton signed a bill that stripped away regulations of the financial market that led to the subprime mortgage crisis.

Congratulations America! The bill may have been neutered somewhat, but it's still a huge step in the right direction for you guys. Believe it or not, the fact that the US introduced some measure of public health care actually made it to 3 headlines of the 4 (Danish ones) I keep on my iGoogle newsfeed.

Won't someone think of the poor funeral homes that will lose business because of this?

Yeah, most people I work with are ranting and raving about this. I think my boss and I are part of the few who are not right wing, and even he hates the current bill.
As for the tax hikes, isn't the hike .9% FICA, or did I read that wrong (I can't even remember where I read that)? If that's it, then they'll be taking an extra dollar, at most, from my check. I think I can live with that.

I hope you guys get the public option through. Hell if us Aussies deserve it, if Europe deserves it then you deserve it! Thumbs up from down under for getting the first bill through.

Fucking finally. Sounds like a great step to me, and personally I don't understand the opposition to it at all. But what do I know, I live in The Netherlands, one of the most liberal social-democratic countries in the world. We've had equal civil rights, lots of working socialised programmes, and universal healthcare for quite a while now. That doesn't stop some idiots from complaining and even moving out of the country, but hey, different strokes for different folks I guess.

Remember, when you don't starve and die, who did that for you. Except,... [1] Medicare and Social Security are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. [2] Unemployment has been hit so hard by the economy that there's barely enough money to pay for those who are already in the system. [3] The recession still ain't over, meaning that jobs are still being lost. 1. Social Security is only because the surpluses it had been running were rolled into general revenue. Medicare because of raising health care costs, which this bill aims to lower. 2. Good thing that in the bill are more tax breaks for small businesses. 3. The rate of job loss had slowed, and unemployment is down slightly. Plus every other economic indicator is good.

That thread filled me with something that might have been glee. Fred: Are you going to enlighten Nickerson and anyone else who is curious about the anti-women amendment you spoke of in your post? He must be talking about the ban on federal funding for abortion. For those who care to laugh RR changed the thread title, now found here: rr-bb.com/showthread.php?130930-Obamination-Stealth-Care-passedThe basic idea is that America died last night.

Fuck you RR whiny ass bitches..like you tell us - If you don't like it here then, GET OUT!

While I'm geekishly happy about this passing (assuming that, when all is said and done, we get a public option), I'm really wondering what, if anything, Obama'll be focusing on next. Obviously, the economy is a really big problem, but I don't see very much he can do about that (at least in the way of "initiatives" and what not) right now. Same with the war.
It may just be selfish of me, but I'm really hoping that, given the talk about repealing "don't ask, don't tell", the next thing Obama and his people will focus on are the promises they made to the GLBT community. Repealing DADT and DOMA and, hell, trying to get nation-wide civil unions or the equivalent (I can dream big!) might not mean much to most people in this country and would be likely to ignite a(nother) shit-storm, but it seems to me that those (or at least the first two) are far more feasible than figuring out a way to completely fix the economy or end the war in Iraq.
Anything anybody else is particularly wanting to see tackled next?

Anything anybody else is particularly wanting to see tackled next? Israel, and by extension, the entire region.
