Heard that phrase before? Well, now some reality.... www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30043893/"The gunman Poplawski feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and “didn’t like our rights being infringed upon,” said Edward Perkovic, his best friend." So he donned a bulletproof vest & shot 3 police officers who were responding to a domestic disturbance call. He had recently lost his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns. I...there really are no words. I skim Rapture Ready from time to time, out of boredom mostly, and I see these same words over & over. How they're stocking up on ammo, and they've got their guns locked & loaded in case someone tries to take them away. Your thoughts?

This is the danger of ramping up the rhetoric amongst the religious right. There is always a "hero" out there. Fuck.

I just fail to see how this guy can't see that his actions only make the bans on assault weapons and high-powered handguns MORE likely to happen, not less.

I don't think logic played a large part in this guy's paranoia.

The DNC has gotten itself a reputation as the party of gun "control," which some people interpret to mean slowly trying to deprive the citizenry of their right to be armed. Hence, the panic now that you've a Democratic president and Democratic domination in Congress.
The article implies that the guy was already mental to begin with. Add to it severe paranoia and the stress from getting fired, and you've got a recipe for disaster.
I, personally, wonder if the guy was on drugs or something else tho. That might have been the final spark to make him do this.

Great.....and just think about how many militant splinter groups there are in America, hoarding guns and training themselves with survival tactics.
*Remember, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were just like that....*

Not to mention Chuck Norris's recent comments that there are hundreds of cells of armed conservatives ready to rise up and lead the revolution against Obama...

I wonder how long until this new anti-gun posterboy realizes his mistake.

The whole reason there is a "panic" amongst the right wing gun nuts is because the GOP FOSTERED that panic. The Dems are no more "anti-gun" then the GOP, they're just more vocal about it, and the GOP uses it, (like 9/11, WMD's in Iraq, national security and so on) to ramp up the fear amongst supporters. You really are a mindless twit, aren't you?

GOP scare tactics, that's all. How is that any different than their race-baiting?

You really are a mindless twit, aren't you? To be fair, he said that the Democratic Party has gotten a reputation for being the party of gun control, not that it was or was not true. And to a certain extent it is true, especially down here in the south. I've seen politicians who say that any form of gun control law whatsoever is wrong. I saw a segment on a politician over in Louisiana who wants to revoke that state's ban on taking guns into bars. Many Democrats support common sense gun control laws, and many Republicans oppose even the most obviously sane of them. However as far as I can tell, Obama has never said anything about taking away anyone's guns. Not a single word.

The Dems are no more "anti-gun" then the GOP, they're just more vocal about it Ok, this part, at least, is just flat-out wrong. The democratic voters are by far more in favor of stricter gun laws according to this 2004 Harris poll. 71% of democrats favor more strict laws, 11% less. The Republicans were split 35/35. I recognize you're not talking about the voters, so I started pulling up data on bills. The Brady Bill, for example, can be found here. The democrats were split 47/8 for/against, while republicants were 16/28 for/against (there was a democratic abstention). More recently, when voting on a bill to prohibit police confiscation of firearms in a disaster, Republicans voted in favor 55/0, while Democrats split 28/16. Even if the GOP fostered the panic, they're nowhere near as anti-gun as the democrats. No, it's not entirely a partisan issue, but it's pretty clearly got a pretty strong correlation. Before you call someone a willfully ignorant mindless twit, at least have the courtesy to back up your assertions with evidence.
