Now if states would also start legalizing polyamorous, incestual, and heterosexual same-sex marriages we'd be getting closer to actual equality.

If people what open marriages that is up to them not the state, and they are legal now. Legalizing same sex marriage would legalize it no matter if the people were gay or not. Incestual? I take it you are trying to go for the inane and totally false slippery slope argument. If so you are failing at it.

That's two states within a month of each other. Is the tide starting to turn? Just to point out: New Hampshire has similar legislation on the table, and Maine and Rhode Island are considering legislation allowing same sex marriages. We're looking at possibly three more states in the next couple of months, on top of the ones who have done it, and like Vermont, those are just the ones pondering legislative change. When we were talking about Prop 8 on the old forums, I said that I'd bet money that within five years at least ten states would have legal gay marriage. I stand by that.

If we let Christians freely practice their religion, next thing you know we'll have to allow people to practice the ancient Aztec religion and perform human sacrifice! Do you see how flawed that kind of argument is?

I hate that "well then why not allow incest/polygamy!" argument. Its so obvious the people making it are just parroting someone else as the slightest bit of research would show that incestious marriage is ALREADY legal, for god's sake our 2nd president married his 3rd cousin! Its probably illegal for immediate family because of how easy it is to abuse. Anyone who tries to argue polygamy is just dumb, 2 people of the same sex can't abuse the system any more than opposite sexes, not putting a limit on spouses could lead to herds of golddigging wives or half of Tijuana marrying someone for citizenship.

Just how fucking stupid are these people? www.rightwingwatch.org/content/it%E2%80%99s-rain-your-wedding-dayYES, you prick. You ARE evil discriminators, you AREN'T allowed to deal in federal services like adoption if you discriminate. Go whine about it with Christian Identity. Above that was this: So many fucking lies, but its okay as long as they do the moral thing and make sure are children don't grow up thinking gays are human beings with rights and feelings.

Quick question: what rights/benefits do married couples get, anyway? I know they get the right to visit each other in the hospital, leave each other things in their wills, and insurance benefits as well. Right? (Forgive my ignorance. All they taught me in high school was how to pass the TAKS test.) File taxes together, tax incentives, insurance coverage benifits. All of which civil unions can't replicate. Also, spouses cannot be forced to testify against each other in court. They can use each other's credit history for loans. In cases where the relationship ends, one partner can't just walk out and never look back, leaving the other partner with bills, child care, etc. (Well, they can, but there are legal steps that can be taken to mitigate it.)

Marriage no longer confers citizenship, and it hasn't since 1999 or 2000. I had a friend, Damir, in high school who was an immigrant from Bosnia, and when the law changed everybody made jokes about how marrying his girlfriend wouldn't do him any good anymore. And as it happens I would support the legalization of polygamy, provided the legal logistics can be worked out (declaring a primary spouse? I don't know for sure). We're talking about consenting adults, for crying out loud. Why limit civil liberties because it's logistically tricky?

I'm not yet sure how this particular troll thinks, but I'll make a calculated guess and say that "heterosexual same-sex marriage" refers to situations like the one played for laughs in the movie I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, where two people of the same gender get married despite both being straight.

If it could work I'm all for it, I'm saying with all the legal/tax problems the IRS is gonna make the fundies look tame in their opposition to this.

C'mon, haven't we already heard this same tired argument over and over? And go VT! I'm sure we'll see some NH action pretty soon, you never know!
