This just gets better as each state joins in. While fundies are frothing at the mouth and bouncing off the walls, the world is leaving them farther and farther behind.

Now if states would also start legalizing polyamorous, incestual, and heterosexual same-sex marriages we'd be getting closer to actual equality. What the fuck is a heterosexual same-sex marriage? You mean besides an oxymoron?

We're already legally recognized in New York; it'll be nice when other couples won't have to take a train to one of the New England states to make that happen, can just go to the courthouse or their own house of worship like everyone else.
I love this! I love that same-sex couples can marry in Iowa and are finally equal in Vermont! And I love that DC's now going to recognize legal same-sex marriages, too! It really does feel like the tide's turning dramatically.

Yes! Gobble Gobble! Gobble Gobble! We accept you one of us! And go VT! I'm sure we'll see some NH action pretty soon, you never know! There's a reason the states look like they're 69ing. ...Err...We're the top. Now if states would also start legalizing polyamorous, incestual, and heterosexual same-sex marriages we'd be getting closer to actual equality. Of course, inter-family marriage is already possible. In some states, not even that frowned upon. Strike one. Did you know there are still states where you can legal screw your dog? If you're going to argue a slippery slope, I really have to wonder what you think is worse: same sex marriage or interspecies copulation. Polyamourous? Well, it's Biblically supported, and that's what most of the fundies are for, so why is that a bad thing? Strike two. Heterosexual same-sex marriages. Fail. Strike three. New batter? When we were talking about Prop 8 on the old forums, I said that I'd bet money that within five years at least ten states would have legal gay marriage. I stand by that. I hope to Ethan Allen you're right.

I'm gonna post this here. I'm going to respond to him tomorrow, most likely. I can't do it today because I'm too pissed.
This is from the Letters to the Editor in today's (4-08-09) Brattleboro Reformer:
Veto was the right move
Editor of the Reformer:
Gov. Jim Douglas' promised veto was the right thing to do to block the re-definition of marriage. At least he has his head on straight.
I found it notable that in the April 4 Reformer all the pro-traditional-marriage letters were submitted last month; the gay marriage advocates' letters were written last night and given immediate publication. So who's manipulating and controlling the information we read in the Reformer ?
One of the glaring facts of this whole issue on same-sex marriage is that so many have actually bought into the mythology that gay-lesbian-bisexual-transgender identities are inborn, unchangeable human traits. Nothing could be further from the truth. Everyone is born a sinner -- we tend to put our will ahead of God's will, and we want to make our own rules for right and wrong.
Homosexuals are not different from anyone else except that they have an identity problem. Debate continues as to why this occurs, but most evidence indicates it's due to environmental factors from childhood through young adulthood. Science has found no reliable biological explanation for it, except that some of us are more sensitive or adventurous than others, and sexual conduct becomes addictive.
All of the above comes from the testimonials of former homosexuals who have left the homosexual lifestyle, married, become mom and pop parents and live a straight life. Yet though still haunted by some feelings they now ignore in favor of more wholesome and healthy behavior, had they known beforehand that sexuality does not define "who you are" they could have avoided it altogether.
Some same-sex pairs whom I have known certainly cared for one another, and maintained a household, but did not identify as a sexual couple. Nor did they feel they had to.
Marriage is for forming families and raising kids as mom and dad. Even childless couples reinforce this pattern within the extended family. There is a number of studies that show the best-adjusted children come from such homes. There is also an abundance of evidence that kids in trouble, school drop-outs, and under-achievers come from less-intact home-and-family environments. So do most law-breakers and sex-offenders.
Even the most totally invested and involved homosexual activists who have left the life-style to live a straight life found their way out through religious experience. No wonder the gay advocates are so down on religion -- it interferes with their justification for what they want their life to be.
To destroy the meaning of marriage and twist it to fit their life-style is actually an attempt to recoup the experience they missed somehow while growing up. They flee from religion because it reminds them of what they should be rather than what they want to be.
Rev. David A. Garrecht,
Guilford, April 6

He's one town over. He's probably in town a lot, because Guilford lacks a lot of the big stuff one might need from Supermarket, a real downtown, or a soulless Wal-Mart. So yeah, I have to live near him.

How the fuck does someone accomplish this? Unless they're roommates. But this would be no different than me having a roommate that's male.
