YOU ARE NOT AMERICAN! YOU ARE A CANADIAN! THEREFORE STUFF THAT HAPPENS IN AMERICA CAN NOT AND WILL NOT EVER EFFECT YOU IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM! Not that I'm defending the troll, but things that happen in the US do sometimes affect Canadians, as well as people in other nations. Plus, there's nothing wrong with commenting on issues that don't affect you personally, given that one can care about other people's well being even if they aren't members of ones own nationality. As far as Canada and the US sharing similar issues: On a small scale, this is can be true, but neither country has the Orwellian police force AA envisions while posting his nonsense.

I think his consumption of "summer savory" is probably up to "THE CIA IZ WATCHIN ME THRU MAH TV" level. He's mentioned that since it's his only indulgence. Alcohol is sooo much worse for you, you know. Canada is also supposed to be worse because we're more socialistic and still "loyal" to Britain, yet where is his list of abuses by the RCMP? He didn't even comment on the horrible brutality inflicted upon the totally peaceful protesters for the G20 summit, but would rather whine about shit even the Truthergirls wouldn't speculate about. I also noticed that he didn't comment on impatiens post. We have the RCMP here, so in a sense we do have a "national" police force in addition to local police, depending on your locale. You'd think from the way he talked that they'd have tased, arrested and forcibly impounded my vehicle for hitting a deer. No, he took my info, (and of the two who were tailgating me because they had damage) gave me back my papers after he filled out his report and I drove on my merry way. Well, about as merry as you can get for clocking Bambi's mother on a dark highway. EDIT: Made some changes. One thing I've been hoping he'd expand on are situations where cop cars get rammed or cops nearly get killed, yet instead of unloading on the perp (which I think at that point the police are well above reason to return fire) they instead try to take the perps down without killing anyone. I mean, if they are as abusive and dangerous as he claims, then why is it there aren't mass cases of incidents where the cops go nuts and start filling people full of holes even when they have plenty of reason? I forget who said it, but some American fire chief once said that an employee of his only ever did one corageous action- joining the fire department. Now, this guy had run into burning buildings to carry out children and the like, but to the chief that wasn't exceptional heroism, it was the required duties of his job. I think a similar standard is fair for police. Good on your for joining the police force; never screw up or we'll send you to jail. Police have a duty to never unnecessarily take life. If they fail to do so, that's not exceptional, it's expected. If they do, they should be held to a much higher standard than normal, authority-less, people. The job is going to suck, but there it is.

I don't want them held to a higher standard than normal people. That would be unfair. I want them held to the same standards as normal people, or even reasonably similar standards. I wouldn't even mind if we lowered the standards for civilians to the level of cops instead of raised the level of cops to the standards civilians are held to, or maybe put them both in the middle, as long as there is some kind of equality in the law. Something a civilian would be executed for should not mean a paid vacation (reward) for a cop.

Do you even have any specific examples of them trying to resolve a violent situation without ultraviolence?

AA, there are millions of cops on the planet -- of course of a few are going to be psychos. That hardly proves that all, most, or even a large minority are that way. I bet I could dig up plenty of stories about teachers doing abusive shit, but I doubt that you'd use that as evidence that teachers are evil.
And cops need to be held to a higher standard than the average civilian because they're in a position of authority.

Difference is that when teachers, doctors, or anyone else does something evil and gets caught, they are held accountable for their actions both by the legal establishment and the professional one they belong to. Cops almost never are found of wrongdoing by either, leading me to believe that there is a serious problem with the police establishment, rather than just a few "bad apples." The ONLY professional institution comparable to Canadian or American police forces is the Vatican who will go to any lengths to protect pedophile priests rather than allow them to be held accountable for their actions. EDIT: And you're dreaming if you think police or people in a position of authority are ever held to a higher standard than anyone else.

Because me and my friends and my instructors and the media hides them all, of course. I mean... there's a whole massive cop conspiracy. In all seriousness though, as Rime said I was able to match AA a couple months back and he's still yammering on. AA isn't going to learn. Ever.

While I agree that there's a lot of room for improvement in law enforcement, the forces in the US and Canada are much, MUCH less corrupt than the ones you'll find in Mexico, Russia, any number of African countries, and so on. Do you honestly think that the RCMP is more corrupt than the police departments in Afghanistan? Iraq? Mexico? C'mon. Oh, and cover-ups occur quite frequently in medicine. I'm sure you could find just as many cases of doctors abusing their power as instances involving the cops. This happens because humans, as individuals, can be bastards. It doesn't occur by design. Here's the thing: Cops aren't necessarily morally superior to the rest of us. They are human beings, after all. You, however, seem to think that they're morally inferior simply by virtue of being the police, which is every bit as ridiculous as the notion that they're all perfect little heroes. Note that I said "need to be", not "are". Authority figures often get away with crap due to public complacency and people placing their personal loyalties ahead of their ethics. No one denies this.

Thought not.

First degree murder is a death penalty crime, Arizona is a death penalty state. Why is this guy still breathing if cops are held to an even remotely comparable standard?
