Ten year old Brennan Daigle is now an honorary member of the Army. Brennan is fighting a rare form of cancer. I fight that will most likely take his life. His mother started a facebook page called Brennan's Brigade to keep people informed of his fight. The name stems from Brennan's love of the military. For his birthday Brennan's mother along with Becky Prejean, who runs Dreams Come True of Louisiana, contacted the public relations office at Fort Polk, home of the U.S. Army's 1st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade and asked if a couple of soldiers would be willing to show up for Brennan's birthday. Instead of meeting just a couple of soldiers Brennan was surprised by forty members of the 1st MEB standing at attention. Brennan was then sworn in as an honorary member of the United States Armed Forces. news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110308/ts_yblog_thelookout/wish-comes-true-for-cancer-stricken-10-year-old-inducted-into-army

Not sure how I feel about any ten year old "loving the military" this much. Probably he knows what the commercials and recruiting posters told him. Not to mention any relatives he may have that he looks up to who may have served.

I wanted to join the military and still do. When do I become an honorary member of the United States Air Force?

Not to mention any relatives he may have that he looks up to who may have served. I hope that wasn't intended to make me feel BETTER. Kids strapping bombs to their chests or picking up AKs only know that kind of life, too. When cancer kids join al Qaeda, are you all "I'm glad he finally got to fulfill his lifelong dream of dropping buildings on thousands of innocent civilians?" [the preceeding was satire. If you can't figure that out with the current disclaimer, please leave this site and go join your fellow Teabaggers] [The preceeding disclaimer was not intended to imply that all teabaggers are bad. The people who merely think of it as a gay sex act are often quite delightful people] [Explicit sarcasm that will no less offend half the board anyway aside, the one hting I'm serious about is not understanding how that's supposed to particularly make me feel any different, let alone better. however, as the military is a sacred cow fellated by fundies on both sides of the aisle, I'll quite while I'm behind]

I was expecting this to be another one of those "US army recruiting underage kids" threads, but it was a pleasant surprise to find something heartwarming. Regardless of how one feels about a kid loving the army, the fact that they fulfilled a kid's dream is really awesome. He was promptly deployed to Afghanistan... You're going to hell for posting this, and I'm going to hell for laughing at it. We should hang out where we get there.

The kid sees the military as defenders of the USA, most likely. Heroes, all that sort of stuff. And now they've made him, for all practical purposes, an honorary Hero. It's probably the thing that's made his impending death bearable. Don't ruin the moment with your pessimism.

Plus they get to drive and shoot tanks, blow stuff up, carry around freaking big guns. To a ten year old boy, that is pretty cool.
