Does it make me old that I only got the last two references? Maybe. But then I got all three and am only in my mid-twenties. Perhaps you're just a nerd like me, albeit not a very good one. (Com'on, man. Who doesn't know about The Avengers?! ) *raises hand*

Jesus Christ, a kid has a fascination with the military, lots of kids do at that age. Because it's likely he'll never reach adulthood some people thought they'd give him something he liked as a present...and someone gets a stick up their ass about it, as usual....Let the kid enjoy his dreams for fuck's sake

Not what I excpected when I read the thread title. That's pretty cool actually. Not sure how I feel about any ten year old "loving the military" this much. How can it be bad? I knew when I was 9 years old I wanted to be a Ranger.

The comic or the TV show? Was there an archer named "Hawkeye" on the spy show? Then the comic book. Connecting this back to the military, Jeremy Renner will be playing Hawkeye in The Avengers movie, and he played an army guy in The Hurt Locker. [/tenuous]

No, but there was a young Honor Blackman wearing an all-leather outfit (that really didn't leave anything to the imagination) kicking mens arse quite a lot. Excuse me, it's got a bit hot in here and I need to, ahem, go and cool off.......

I wanted to join the military and still do. When do I become an honorary member of the United States Air Force? Get terminal cancer. Is terminal handicaps not enough?

Excessive praise of the millitary can cause a long series of bad things, from cultural pressures forcing theoretically unwilling people to join up, through an inappropriate and inaccurate image of the defence force's capabilities and actions leading to poor policy decisions and even civil war and fascism. Victorian England would be a really good example of the first one and, you know, Fascist Spain and stuff for the second.

...god help the poor little bastard if he wanted to be a firefighter instead, right?
Wait, no, that would be growing up to be good, not like those disgusting soldiers.
I'd really like to know how a 10-year-old dreaming of growing up to be a soldier = shitty government choices, BTW.
