Ah, so, she's stupid enough not to know the difference between "Atheists" and "Buddhists"? And god loves them, so he wipes out their homes, kills over 10,000 people, blows up two buildings in a nuclear plant and releases enough radiation to hit Vladivostok and then leaves the newly-homeless survivors to a subzero winter? This is love? Wow. Yep. That's fundies for you. But even if she was a poe, it's not something you should poe. It's still horrific.

This is just Beck burnishing his resume so can jump to CBN in the event FOX doesn't renew his contract.

Ah, so, she's stupid enough not to know the difference between "Atheists" and "Buddhists"? Japan is something like 60% atheist. The two are not mutually exclusive. Religion in Japan is a bit strange from a western viewpoint, there is a lot of syncratism. Plenty of people practice aspects of both Buddhism and Shintoism, I'm sure a number of them would identify as non-religious as well. Their current prime minister is Christian but I read about him offering a prayer at an important Shinto shrine a while back. Their culture just views that sort of thing differently. Reality is never as simple as statistics make it out to be.

That God is "grounding" us, taking away our toys, spanking us, however you want to say it, because we haven't been behaving.

The suffering of innocent individuals in Japan is a tragedy, and excelsior to all those assisting people over there at the moment. Shout out to Red Cross intnl' and Medicine Sans Frontier for their work, and every one of you should donate to them.
That said, I'm having a little difficulty mustering much sympathy for Japan as a collective whole, due to some of the excesses of its people, culture and attitude in the recent and not so recent past.

In fairness, you can say the same thing (to varying degrees) about almost any developed nation.

In fairness, you can say the same thing (to varying degrees) about almost any developed nation. Well... you COULD... however, in all honesty I can't, off the top of my head, think of any other developed nation that actively takes pride in the misdeeds of its past, or refuses to acknowledge them. Were Japan to be more open to external criticism about things like, say, apologising to the survivors of Nanjing, and leaving the fucking whales alone, then I think we'd be talking about a developed country similar to others with past misdeeds in its past, acknowledged and atoned for. Japan is something of an exception in this regard.

How would this phrasing have made you felt during the flooding in Queensland? I would ask what the person phrasing thusly was talking about. Australian military guilty of any massive atrocities against unarmed civilians, the nation the instigator of wars of unprovoked annexation, or guilty of illegally hunting protected species in other people's teritorial waters, and refusing to acknowledge any wrong doing in regard to them? If so, then I'd feel said comments were appropriate. If not, chalk 'n cheese, bitch.
