Shout out to Red Cross intnl' and Medicine Sans Frontier for their work, and every one of you should donate to them. Seconded. They're pretty much the greatest organisation in the universe. A significant number of the doctors have actually been killing in service. Proof read maybe?

Also a shoutout to Shelterbox and the real International Rescue, both of whom were active within minutes of getting the news. nb Shelterbox - provides emergency equipment for a family to survive for one week, all the equipment comes in one box (hence the name), they started work at 0430 GMT on Friday and have been working in shifts ever since to get as many boxes out to Japan as possible International Rescue - not to be confused with the Gerry Anderson creation, a voluntary organisation made up of Doctors, nurses, Firefighters, Paramedics, Police, Engineers and some Armed Forces personnel (specifically ones trained in Mountain Rescue and medical personnel) who go to disaster zones to help in Rescue efforts. Founded over 20 years ago and have been active ever since.

Unless they have a bunch of oddly phalic spaceships*, I think they could have come up with better. * Except Thunderbird 2, T2 was cool. I used to build it out of lego.

I'm particularly angry because I have family in Japan and seeing people laughing about it and making jokes about the quake and tsunami? Sickening. Anyways, RR also has some... lovely... things to say about it. Share a few of the "lovelies" with RSTDT please. We can always do with a few laughs at RR's expense.

Wrong country, genius: I'm disappointed in you, WBC. It wasn't WBC, it was some random guy on Facebook. WBC will no doubt come up with something even more vile than that. The Chinese were effected somewhat by the Japanese quake and had some deaths.

In fairness, you can say the same thing (to varying degrees) about almost any developed nation. Well... you COULD... however, in all honesty I can't, off the top of my head, think of any other developed nation that actively takes pride in the misdeeds of its past, or refuses to acknowledge them. I find it hard to think of a country that doesn't. Germany is the only one that comes to mind. Certainly not Australia.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already...
I've been hearing a lot of fuckers say the quake in Japan was a message from God (as are most natural disasters) and I think to myself (regarding Christians at least), did they miss the whole part of their religion where Christ dies for everyone's sins? Doesn't that mean no more punishment? Seems to be contradictory.

Doesn't that mean no more punishment? Seems to be contradictory. Specifically, they believe that he died for everyone's sins, but that they have to accept that first before their sins can be forgiven. Now that I type it, it does seem rather contradictory, but hey, what can you do? Fundies, after all.

For a slightly different idiotic reaction, some genius on another forum suggested that they take the core from the malfunctioning reactors and drop it in the ocean to cool it off. As in, dropping the core in directly, without containment. And yes, they were serious.

RADIOACTIVE SUSHI OMNOMNOM If I learned anything from my Nuclear Nonproliferation class, dropping radioactive material in random places without putting it in something first is a BAD IDEA, unless you want to irradiate places you don't really want irradiated.

Even with containment, I'm not too keen on dropping a nuclear reactor into corrosive bloody seawater.
