So my dad emails me this link simply saying "Watch this" He and my mom seem to be getting into more conspiracy shit. When I came home after school, before moving into my apartment, there were lots of water jugs on the basement steps. When I Asked my mom about it, she said it was for the impending collapse of the economy or something like that. inflation.us/videos.htmlSo far I'm looking at the college conspiracy one. 3 mins and 25 seconds theres Gerald Celente. Theres a page about him on rationalwiki, apparently hes a "Trend Forcaster" and makes a lot of vague predictions. I'll see if my brain won't lose a few cells from watching the rest of this stuff. edit: So still watching the college one. Mr. Celente talks about college degrees and how they're needed for jobs and he thinks thats bullshit and instead wants someone who can think. Credentials are necessary, especially if you're going into a specialized field, like microbiology.

Actually, the thing about college degrees is sort of true. The way things are structured these days, a college degree by itself doesn't mean a whole lot (and frankly doesn't open all that many doors even in technical fields), but I get the feeling that this guy's problem is mostly standard anti-intellectualism.

And then you have those career paths that demand not only a degree, but years of specialized training. Med school, law school, the like.

there were lots of water jugs on the basement steps "We just watched Signs and thought it was a good idea." I would've just bought a humidifier (assuming I was stupid enough to think defences against hydrophobic aliens are necessary in the first place), but eh, to each their own.

The question to ask what are they selling? That seems to be gold and silver. Look at the Q&A and the Gold & Silver Sellers reviews.

Yeah my dad mentioned something about the dollar no longer being backed by the gold standard. I think he has bought some coins. Also told me to keep any pennys from 1982 (I think it was '82) because their copper is worth more like 3 or 4 cents. I think there needs to be some education reform. I'm not sure exactly what. Perhaps textbook prices and class size limits (such as 300 student chemistry lectures).

Bollocks, they don't want people who can think; they want people who will do what they say without question and are too stupid to realize when they're getting screwed.

This is not untrue, but at the same time not having the degree means the doors are going to stay closed.

Your folks are warding off financial catastrophe using jugs of water and pennies?

Gold standard is fucking retarded.

Yeah, why the push from the far-right to return to the gold standard? Is it just part of their general mental instability and inability to remember what happened 70 seconds ago, let alone 70 years (give or take) ago? Is it mostly coming from people with vested interests in the "Cash for Gold" companies? Something else? Or am I wrong, and there's only a few lunatic fringers who are making any overtures towards it?

They've been convinced deflation is good for them. Even though they're borrowing money that already gets charged interest.
