I'd prefer to stop the dissolution of the Roman Empire, but basically.

I'd prefer to stop the dissolution of the Roman Empire, but basically. Eugh, no, then we'd still have Christers -- they'd just have more power than they already do.

Am I the only one here that wants to bum a ride on the TARDIS, go back, and stop this Christer bullshit before it even starts? (By which I mean assassinating Constantine AND the entire "council" of Nicea...) Constantine's actions and Nicea were just a response to Christianity gaining huge popularity within the empire. Offing those people would just mean that their successors do pretty much the same thing. In fact, even if Christianity didn't exist and Europe stayed pagan, then the only thing that would change is that the various pagan religions would take Christianity's place as a major source of bullshit as opposed to the cute little hipster novelty religions they are now (assuming some other monotheistic religion doesn't succeed in gaining support in Europe).

If the Roman Empire hadn't collapsed, the Dark Ages wouldn't have happened, & think how much ahead-of-schedule our society would be today.

I heard there were a lot of so-called messiahs running around at that time, kill off one messiah-cult and you might just find a similar one gets popular to fill in the breach.

Then keep killing them off. It's a win-win -- they get to die thinking they're some kind of holy martyr, the world is rid of one more moronic cult.

If Christianity had anything to do with the collapse, it was because the Romans shot themselves in the dicks in their frenzied attempts to snuff it out. No, Christianity can at best be claimed for preserving it so shittily after it had already fallen apart.

No, Christianity can at best be claimed for preserving it so shittily after it had already fallen apart. Got a citation for that? 'Cuz from where I'm sitting, Christianity and it's absolute insistence on FOLLOW ME OR DIE is directly responsible for much of the collapse, especially in heavily pagan areas.

Do I have a citation for something not happening?
No, I do not have that.

Okay, do you have ANY proof at all that Christianity didn't, in fact, hasten the downfall of the Empire?

"Jesus wasn't a Christian"
Neither are most of his followers.

Again, no, I don't have proof of some shit that didn't happen. You may as well be asking me for proof that there were never T-Rexes on the moon.
The closest thing I could point to is the fact that Rome had been dealing with Judaism's douchebaggery pretty much anually ever since they conqueored them.

To be fair, demanding a monotheistic society to worship your gods as well (in addition to theirs) while being kinder than "CONVERT OR DIE" that would be in the future, was still a douchebaggery move in and of itself, and as such, was responded to with douchebaggery. Asses everywhere! And yet so little has changed since those days, lol.

Offing those people would just mean that their successors do pretty much the same thing. That's not entirely correct - up until well into the fifth century, there was a good chance of the christian movement dying off (laregely due to doctrinal squabbling - ironically the biggest persecutor of christian groups were other christian groups)
