I have never been a huge fan of The Simpsons. Not that I think its a bad show, I just never watched it so I'm not attached to it. South Park has always rubbed me the wrong way for some reason and I prefer the old episodes of Family Guy to the new ones. As long as they keep getting ratings and making money they will remain on the air.
I just thank the gods that Futurama is back. Sweet, sweet, Zoidberg, how I missed you.

Ooh, this sounds fun. I normally play alliance, but I have a certain level of respect for the Tauren and Orcs...and who doesn't love goblins I agree, I don't mind which server or faction. Will give me a good reason to roll another character to see the changes in Cataclysm.

I love Invader ZIM. Stupid Nickelodeon treated it like shit.
<--------- Gir is my favorite. I want to be more like him.

Dammit, Youtube is blocked in my office. Just by looking at how he is dressed in the screenshot I would imagine it’s a Poe, I mean, that is one fabulous scarf.
Anyway, the typical conceptualization of gay people by groups who attempt to “cure” homosexuals is the traditional Freud perspective. Weak father, overbearing mother, blah, blah. It’s all a bunch of shit with absolutely no basis in theory. What is interesting is that when you look at the actual clinical process (if it can be called that) these re-orientation centers inflict on people, it more resembles the treatment of the person’s gender roles rather than sexual orientation. I suppose that isn’t entirely surprising though.
[shameless plug] A section of my Master’s thesis from a few years ago outlines treatment practices and the ethical concerns regarding re-orientation therapy if anyone is interested in reading it. [/shameless plug]

I am actually surprised by my results. I have found myself being more open to the possibility of a 'larger force' of some kind recently, I have just not found any...dare I say, belief system that I feel comfortable with.
Raised by fundies, became an atheist, now veering back towards some kind of belief system I can't name, lol. Anyone have any good information on Buddhism? Seems like it might be worth looking into for me.
1. Mahayana Buddhism (100%) 2. Theravada Buddhism (98%) 3. Unitarian Universalism (97%) 4. Neo-Pagan (94%) 5. Liberal Quakers (92%) 6. New Age (83%) 7. Secular Humanism (77%) 8. They're always afraid of my big doggie and don't stick around. He is harmless, but I'm not telling them that. If there comes a day when Mr. Boofer is not around to be my fake guard dog I don't mind telling them that I respect their beliefs and ask that they respect mind since we're having this conversation at my house. If they plan on being disrespectful, doors can be closed on feet if the situation warrants it.

He isn't coming back on May 21, 2011. I can prove it.
You see, I don't graduate with my doctorate until May 7, 2011 and that is not sufficient time to live as a doctor after all the shit I've gone through to get there.
Nobody is getting in my way of basking in the glow of my achievement for a good 50 years. I will not let anyone end the world, I don't give a fuck if its the Son of God or not.

Ah, Jesus Camp. I saw it a few years ago. I showed it to my mother who is Christian and has been known to be a little narrow-minded herself, especially in the realm of accepting my being gay. We watched the film together because I wanted her to have the chance to get out of the blissful ignorance she seems to seek out so adamantly. So we watched it and after it was over I had an exchange with my tiny, church going mother I will never forget. Her: "Wow." Me: "Yeah." *long silence* Her: "That was fucked up." Me: "What!?" Her: "Also that pastor woman is a big lez." Then my head asploded. Strangely, though the film sickens me, its mixed with a new found love for my mom.

I just finished reading Good Omens by Gaiman and Prachett for the first time. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever read. I kind of feel bad that it took me this long to actually experience it. I have no idea what I'll read next. With so much to do for school and such, choosing a book is very important.

I'm rarely around except for Public Admin and yesterday was my first day back in there in a while, so I just want to make sure that I'm not missing anything. In addition to repeats, long quotes, most youtube crap and statements of belief, I'm also deleting stuff that I've seen time and time again. For example, all of the quotes talking about the evilness of gay people and how they are destroying America, etc, etc, etc. If there is something in there to make it stand out, I let it through, but I see no problem getting rid of fluff that just states the same bigoted shit over and over.
Am I right in this?

First off, the site is looking awesome. Work has been horrendous so I've been away for a while. Secondly, is there a pool of available awards that we choose from or do we just make up relevant categories? If the latter, here are my two nominations: www.fstdt.net/QuoteComment.aspx?QID=60622Junior Scientist Award - For the fundies who fail utterly at science but goshdarnit they tried! www.fstdt.net/QuoteComment.aspx?QID=60603The You Even Freak Out Jesus Award - For the comments that are so out there and full of fundie-fap material that even Jesus would pretend not to know them.

Evangelicals are losing a great deal of steam lately. So much so that they are less defined by values and more by what values they are against. They scurried around and located the GOP and chose to attach to it because it matches their 'beliefs' the closest, then their cognitive dissonance works overtime to justify the things that don't match their belief system. If the GOP fails, it won't be because the fundies jumped ship. If the GOP did happen to cease existing, the remaining fundies would just skitter around, eventually latching onto the underbelly of a new ideology further out on the fringe.

Like many of you, this makes me sick. I learned quite a while ago not to expect too in this department, which is sad since I'm just 25. However, for all of my straight-faced strength, I'll be damned if this doesn't just make me want me to cry my eyes out to my mother, but I can't do that either because she won't have me.
In a way its totally dismissive because I'm a researcher/practitioner who has chosen to work with the GLBT community. I'm the quietest, most reserved person you'd ever meet, hardly the stuff of an activist. But I swear to [possible] god(s) that I will keep practicing, reading, writing, and publishing because its the only way I know how to contribute.
Damn, I could write forever and still not feel as if I've described how I feel well enough. Fucking pissed just doesn't cover it.
