I mentioned earlier that people don't care one way or another around here, but with the talk of the pagan origins of Christmas I have to mention the one man I've met here who really cared. Unfortunately he was one of my teachers in eight grade and he wanted to "keep Christmas Christian." A girl and I got in a debate with him once, when he had mentioned that he didn't think that it's right that atheists celebrate Christmas. He had some arguments about how it "cheapens the Christian message of the holiday" and stuff like that. If he had his way, non-believers wouldn't even be allowed to celebrate Christmas. I argued that I don't celebrate the religious parts of Christmas. I don't go to church or build nativity scenes, I don't decorate with religious symbols, and the only thing we really used in our house was a nice, big pagan Christmas tree just because we think it's pretty. I said that we only celebrate Christmas because it's a nice time when everyone has time off work/school so we can get together the whole family. He didn't accept that this made any difference though, and stood his ground that my celebrating Christmas in my house somehow is bad for his Christmas. And this really just reminds me of the whole gay marriage thing. We had a winter solstice festival around Christmas time here before the Christian came. We had a type of marriage before the Christians came. But since they've taken over and their traditions are now the popular ones, they think that they should be allowed to control them no matter what religion people have. So Christians say that I shouldn't be allowed to celebrate in a non-religious (though a bit pagan and Christmasesque) way at the same time as Christmas, in my own home. And Christians say that I shouldn't be allowed to marry a guy - even in a courthouse - because that isn't "traditional Christian marriage." They think that they have the right to decide how people do things just because their way is popular right now. Sorry about the rant I just thought it was entertaining, in a way. Just had to quote, because I agree with you. And yes, I too have been told that since I'm not x-tian, I have no right to celebrate on certain time of the year, with mostly pagan traditions such as tree, burning candles, and eating like pig and most importantly spending the time with the people you love. And presents! But on the other hand I usually remember to tell how this and that and those traditions are from pre-christian era and even that we don't discuss it (my atheism) much in my family, most of them seem to accept these days that church/jebus/x-tianism has no part in my life. (even that my grandmother still asks me if I've been to the church of my town... but that is too easy to answer back, without answering anything, I just repeat the question to her - she's bit lazy when it comes to going to church even that she IS x-tian) sorry about the off-topic Oh! And I have to add, that maybe in certain coutries it is easier to say that one celebrates "holiday a" or "holiday b" when the name is more close to the original one. THEY may have tried to change the meaning of it, but THEY didn't have chance to change the name ^_______^

Well, I couldn't decide if I should have died or cried today, but there was this creepy and/or crazy man at the grosary store today. I was just minding my own business and walking towards the cashiers when he suddenly turns around in front of me and start laughing and telling me about bamboo and how there are the only bamboo organs somewhere in Philippines and continues telling me who and who had went there to play them. I just try to ignore him and just when I reach the cashier I remember that I forgot orange juice (got to have it!), so back I go and this time change my route so that I can avoid this weirdo... I reach juices and notice that someone has written on the Big Boxes under the lowest shelves stuff about how "abborttions" are somehow caused by "Nazi connSspiracy" (just imitating their spelling, shame that I can't imitate the childish handwriting). I'm kinda puzzled who would write that kind of shit when next box catches my eye; more writings! something about "GrEEt Oorgan plaiars" and finally the only text with no typos, just wrong forms of the words that claimed that the barok-music is the only real rock music. The "organ player"-part kinda gave me idea who could be behind this and when I noticed more stuff about organs I was pretty sure. By the time I got back to cashiers I was still able to hear his mumbling and giggling about organs between shelves, apparently to some teenage girls who, unlike me, couln't hold their LOUD laughter as they were in the line next to mine

I must admit, that I like the idea of sarcastic font.
And The Lazy One's idea of using it for homework is great, as I do have to sometimes write shit that I do not agree with at all *sigh*

When life is full of shit, 6-ply toilet paper works for me. I know, my happy thoughts aren't too happy today. I've been sick and miserable for almost a week and I'm bit bitter about missing Vappu, May Day

I'd feel bad. In my high school we had drills regularly to practise protocols if an intruder made it into the school. At the time I thought it was lame (the principal would make an announcement on the PA 'Mr. Locker please come to the office' and we would turn off the class lights, lock the door and hide in a corner of the room whilst the officers at school walked around) but now I see it had a point. That! I remember that in all previous schools that I've been, we've had practises for cases of fire (school shooting are new thing here still, so that's why those cases weren't practised back then...) And one of those schools had even safety lectures, just to be sure, about what we were to do in case that there'd be somekind of chemical leak at nearby papermill. And made us go though short course where we learned to use the fire blanket and foam extinguisher ;D

Out of curiosity, did anyone think to mention to this retard that there is a HUUUUUGE difference between changing in a locker room and being herded into an office to be forcibly strip searched by other people? Maybe the person who said this (and might think too) is one of those people who think that if woman likes to have sex with her partner, she shouldn't complain in case she is raped? There is just so much wrong in that case that I wouldn't even know where to start from!!! I feel so sorry for her.

Idea of eternal life kinda scares me. Because what then would mean those lovely mornings when you wake up next to the person you love, or those small moments when you feel that everything is going to be better in your life, or the simple joy of colourful leaves that tell that summer is over? :/
As someone said in the hell thread, the pain would go numb after a while and I think that same would happen in heaven. Everything is your life and afterlife would really lose it's meaning sooner or later. It's really sad thought and extremely sad way to think of life. That nothing would matter anymore.
But then it would kinda explain their attitude at the environment and the planet that the rest of us have to share with them...

(Though I do wonder if everyone read the question properly - 5 people chose 90%, which means that 5 people on this site categorise people with no opinion as 'believers'?) My reason for voting "90 %" : As the answers of the poll were hidden 'till you had voted, I somehow thought there would be nice catch and stopped reading original post at "The true figures are:" and voted before continuing to read. Polls can't be taken too seriously anyways And about definition of belief: If I believe that most people in Iceland believe in elves, how can I still say that I'm atheist (as " non-believer")? ;D

Today i had just one of those regular and boring days at school, when nothing bad REALLY happens. Regular nervousness about dead lines coming closer and closer and feeling that summer is almost here and we've made it though our first of four semesters. Planning picnic on lunch break and laughing at funny videos on you tube and suddenly someone coming to a classroom asking if anyone of us would print the headline news for them... (sorry, only finnish version of that small news available)What's going on? Apparently nothing important. There just had been police charging to our school to remove suspicious person from there. Someone who apparently had had something "stronger than alcohol" in their system had wandered in school and walked around with suspicious plastic bag and had even just walked in to few clasrooms. I'm glad that it was nothing serious after all, he had had bottle in his bag, he left classrooms when teachers had asked him to and so on and after we read the news we actually laughed at it since some of the actual students act suspiciously too, especially on Fridays but it made me think. What IF that guy had been threat for real? We were among those few classes that had lessons on the first floor where he apparently wandered in his "visit" and during lessons doors are not locked. How did he even get in without being noticed? Or was the lady who works at the Info, which is directly opposite the main entrance, on break? And why it was someone of the student who phoned the police, not one of those teachers? And why on earth we have surveillance cameras all around the school if no one monitors them? Wouldn't that have been good time to excercise the evacuation of the school, just in case? And why we weren't informed, even after the police left? Not a word. From anyone. And yes, of course the day continued as usual. I don't even know if we have speaker system or similar in the school that allows informing all the classes in time... ARGH! I just better not to think of it, even that I'm really that kind of girl who always thinks of the worst case scenarios in everything. *worries too much*

(still it makes me almost faint to go there when the smell of those places comes to my nose and I'm hearing distant sound of a drill...) We have a new copier at work, and I think it smells exactly like the dentist. I find that smell to be utterly disgusting and I refuse to go near it. Lucky for me, we still have our old copier until the end of the month. Oh My Goodness! Hopefully the awful smell goes away before the end of the month! (I know that I'd had difficulties with that too!)

Yeah, I'm freaked out by moths. I usually end up screaming at the cats about their only "job" in life is to kill insects. Our cats are useless in that. Younger doesn't know yet what to do with them and older one won't bother to do it since he's more after bigger animals. Or was in our old place. (squirrels, magpies, rats and so on) Those damn cats don't help in that either. They just get me more freaked by staring at some spot on wall or suddenly running away or just causing freaky sounds and so on... I can guess how that is! I just react more to the smell and luckily I've noticed so far nothiong that would have similar smell to "those places". No you're not. You're just unique
