Thanks zabimaru! I think I'm getting so much shorter list on this side than on the phobia-thread Death is one of them, with few limitations of course that have something to do with "way to go" And if referring to "normal people out there outside of internet" I'm not afraid of that kind of people that most are afraid of. Like "creepy looking longhaired men dressed in all black" You can't guess what relief it can be to have bunch of those to appear on sight when you're almost panicking while waiting for the train (alone, at middle of the night) and avoiding eye contact with middle aged drunk men ._. The end.

Dark. Or actually things in the dark that can not be seen. And things under the bed that might get you. And closet door left ajar - I just hate when cats do it (I hope it is our cats doing it...) you never know who's watching you from there. And closed shover curtains. I'm still afraid of under the bed. I know there is nothing there, but I can't stop myself from imagining things. I won't let any part of my body hang off the bed, because I imagine something will come out from under my bed and bite it off. That! I even still avoid having anything hanging off the bed even we have that kind of bed that there is no "under the bed" area... Over active imagination is such a nice thing to have *sigh*

Hmm, besides having that regular and normal fear of spiders and snakes I do have few... Almost abnormal fear of butterflies and especially moths. Having either one of those inside our aparment takes me to panicky tears and rocking myself in corner in 10-20 seconds unless I'm too shocked to even scream. And yes, it's been getting worse... 10 years ago I would have just killed it after freaking out just a little bit. Dark. Or actually things in the dark that can not be seen. And things under the bed that might get you. And closet door left ajar - I just hate when cats do it (I hope it is our cats doing it...) you never know who's watching you from there. And closed shover curtains. Sleeping alone. I'm too afraid to sleep when hubby is not at home. At least in dark room. Hated living on countryside because of it too because if there was to be crazy ax murderer in the woods they would know that in our cabin there would be someone probably at home. Alone. Zombies. And other related stuff, movies on subject and so on... not that bad thou... it just stays in my head forever and I'm about to see nightmares with zombie/end of humankind themes and it sucks since I don't sleep that well even without them. Oh, and hights! Can't look down even if just standing on a chair, not to mention how I feel when hanging curtains and I can see out of the window. Also dentists, especially female dentists. I had crappy biatch as my dentist when I was kid who hated me and was mean to me and refused to use anything and everything when it came to releaving pain and such... I love my current dentist thou. He's OLD man who has more experience on dental stuff in years than I've lived so far and he really knows what he is doing. Last time it took almost 6 hours to me to be able to feel my whole face again *grin* no pain, I just love it. (still it makes me almost faint to go there when the smell of those places comes to my nose and I'm hearing distant sound of a drill...) I guess that was most of it. *feels totally embarassed* Why there is never such a thread as "things that you'er not afraid of"

Interesting subject and funny how the questions that look like the ones that they kinda give same kind of result as Eurobarometer Poll in which there is god instead of elf Maybe it just means that if the questions are "neutral" you are more likely to have positive reaction to anything? Like god, elves or those monster who live in washing machines and eat socks. I haven't even been close to Iceland, but from what I've heard of that place I could be one of those people saying that elves really do exist if I'd live there long enough ;D And yes, I'd still label myself as an atheist. Maybe it's just something in my blood, or maybe it's the dark winters and too bright summers that drive people insane and make me (and them and so one) to think that it's not entirely impossible that pixies, ghosts, elves or Näkkis to exist. *still bit afraid of wells and old bridges*

Mostly something between bi and hetero. I don't have too much experience on women, but I'm not planning to get more either since I'm married. One can only dream ; )
And happily having language with neutral pronouns as mother tongue (and actually I had trouble understanding as a kid WHY there are separate pronouns in other languages, not that I'd understand it better now...)

I don't know at all if I am going to enjoy it if we possibly have a kid or two in future, but still I do feel like *wanting* to have at least one. Selfishly. And I admit it.
I can't say that I love or hate babies/kids as I think that they all are unique - I just dislike most of them as I do with most of the grown up population of the earth that I've met...
And I do believe that having or not having kids is no one elses business than the persons who has opinion about them. No matter the reason why person A is not having kids is, it's not for B to question, because constant asking and questioning (or belittlening) can really hurt feelings. Some people really can't have kids even if wanting to and constantly asking "why aren't you having baby yet?" just doesn't help with dealing the emotional side of it... And yes, I've been asked few times in last two years if we're having kids/ am I pregnant with the "mandatory" shit of getting too close and touching my belly!!! Fuck you, I know that I'm fat and it's not the size that is seen as normal but you've seen me during last few years almost weekly so it shouldn't be any suprise to you!
Somehow I just think that I need to make "touch me and die"-shirts for myself if I ever do have that(/those) small parasite(s) called "fetus" in me...

So basicly you're just "Closed" on sunday? That's small compared to us as we had every place shut on friday and will have everything closed on sunday and monday too. (and no, personally the sunday part won't bother me at all as we have everything closed on sundays anyways... and as a student I do like to get FOUR day weekend when I'm allowed to eat chocolate and not to worry about school *grin* and no, I have nothing against having paid days of on those "christian holidays" when I enter once again working force, just like most of chistians have nothing against 40 hour of work/ week or 5 weeks of paid vacation yearly added to "their" "holy"days) Edit: oh, and I almost forgot... I don't remember exactly when but year or few ago we finally got rid of the law that BANNED all kind of dancing during easter... christian persecution... you know "Just closed on Sunday" is one of seven days and that is a pain in the ass for a lot of folks including but not limited to people on the night shifts. If I don't do my shopping before mid afternoon saturday when i go to bed, and I don't wake up till late saturday night then all will be closed up til noon on sunday, at LEAST. Some stores won't be open then till Monday morning. This is all because of christians and this is every weekend. My pipes don't care if it's a holiday and if I need hardware I have to go to the next state. Luckily for me, it's right over the river, but I live on a border. My friends who live fifty miles in have to drive fifty miles to get to Minnesota if they need something. And for what? So the christians can go to church! One lousy one hour-on-average church service shuts down the whole fucking state for one-seventh of my week! It's redonkulous.
And sure, sometimes the benefit of christian holidays or govt ones is that there is a day off from work but this is only a good thing to some folks. Some of us need to get the hours and not all business' give paid time off; the place is closed, you lost a day's wages. Then of course, the work will still be there when you get back, you just have less time to do it now! Don't underestimate a business' ability to screw its workers for a buck or two.
Limited hours means MORE congestion on the streets when they are open and when folks are open, it's the new folks and the non christians who are expected to work for the christians. All in all it's fucked up.
Hey christians; go have a fucking celebration at night once in a while and stop fucking up everyone else's day. If your relationship is "personal" then stop making the public deal with your choices.
I agree with the OP; fuck jesus. I'm inconvenienced so that other people can celebrate their god for an hour or two on a date that is most likely not even the real date of the event in question anyway.
Persecute this, bitches! <^>(-_-)<^> I just don't know why, but somehow I read from between the lines that you're mad at me because I wasn't crying tears of sympathy for OP who had their stores closed because of easter for WHOLE DAY (omg, how can someone survive though that) since we had everything shut on friday, sunday and monday (and some places didn't bother to open on saturday)... I see no logic in here, but maybe it is just me. And I do know what it is to like to have everything closed on every freaking sunday of the year. Lucky bastard as I am, we have had for few years a law that allowes stores to be open on sundays though summer and two months before christmas, just to make people shop more, but because the sundays are double pay, some places still choose not to open. (and no, I'm not complaining about double pay on sundays here) The joys of having state church

28 and not able to buy her own chocolate!!? *hugs* I feel sorry for you We actually had pretty good rules of not touching other peoples goodies or special foods at home. And partly it worked and still works at my parents house because of allergies and pickyness. But there it ends. As me and my younger sisters have different father we sort of had different sets of rules and mine were more strict as I was supposed to set an example... For example youngest one got away (and still does!) with almost everything including reading my diary and going though my stuff and telling everyone what I had in my room... like telling outloud at dinner table when we had grandparents visiting how I had pads and tampons in my schoolbag! I could have died at the spot (being 13 or 14 at the time, you know how it is...) and left kitchen after saying that nosy little brats like her should die. Result = me bad and had to appologise everyone for my behaviour and of course I was told not to leave my stuff laying around the house, sister got patted on the head and was told not to do it again... Well, it is paying off now as I moved out at 19 years old and been almost totally independent since then, youngest is almost that age (turns 19 on next autumn), just finished her matriculation exams and my mom doesn't even know what she is planning on doing (having year off/ applying to university/polytech / looking for job -only sure thing is that she's not looking for apartment to rent... ) besides riding that rental horse of hers... But on the brighter side as I have life of my own and everyone knows these days how mean she really is - joke is on her. Justice won. And I get to call her lemon with my hubby and we have a good laugh.

With small exceptions almost every place is closed here. Link here , even that it might be pretty useless since it's only available in finnish and swedish (and it's about retail anyways - but same system goes for almost any place and yes, it's only day two, but my hubby is driving me crazy and I have no idea how we're gonna go through the whole summer together as they are having layoffs at his working place)... edit: link

This almost makes me envy you guys, because I can't really remember a single thing that I wished that my parents hadn't told/said to me.
We seems to have this unwritten rule on my mothers side of the family that mothers and daughter get better along when they don't know too much about eachother. At least on the times when it has been relative info. (Half a year ago I told my mom for the first time about my alcohol use as a teenager that she had no clue about (suprise to me).
On the other hand... I do know why my grandparents got married (premarital sex and false alarm - my mom was born over a year after their wedding) and I also know why my granny liked to got to church when she lived near one (she had had a relatively young and apparently goodlooking priest as a religion teacher when she went to school...) and so on.
Kinda sad. Or maybe we just joke around too much so that I can't be offended by anything?

Also to add to my earlier post we had wide spread of subjects though whole (mandatory) school (1st to 9th grade). Some of the subjects started later than others (Swedish or English on 3rd, History on 4th, Physics and Chemistry on 7th and so on) and some became optional from 8th grade ("Crafts" for example. No I didn't pick it, I hated sawing on 3rd and chose the textile orientated one and there I just couln't get my knitted socks even and I hated doing that skirt I never used. But I do know how to sew a button and how to make yule goat from straws ) I guess that my main point here is that school wasn't too stressing that way. Only bit of stress I had was on 9th grade when I had to choose where to go for next three years, to "high school" or vocational school. I chose vocational and basically it was good choise, I have papers that say that I'm Electrician, and I was and still am, qualified to apply for Polytechnics and Universities. All I have to do to get in is pass their entrance examination. (And actually I went to polytechnic for a while -I would have become Bachelor of Science- but had to quit when I got seriously depressed) And in my opinion: you can't put too much weight on that reading part on those PISA-testings , thou. We have extremely easy language to read since (almost) everything is written as it it pronounced and almost every normal kid learns to read during first grade unless they already read when they come to school. (I knew most of the alphabet by the time I went to school but I still remeber the feeling I had when I realised that I knew how to read EVERYTHING! And not just slowly repeat the letters from the texts trying to get the feeling of what the words were. This happened less than two months after the school started...)

This might be the one of the biggest differences here. But in system like this you get best/worst teachers and it is all about luck what kind of teacher you get if you're not one of those kids who learn everything right away.
On the other hand there aren't that many standardized testings. I remeber having those on ninth grade on math, Finnish, English, Swedish, physics, chemistry biology and geography. There might have been others too, but those were the ones I could remember.
Teachers really have more to say / free hands on how they teach, without test around every corner to stress them OR THE STUDENTS about making it through.
And no, it's not about money, nor there is bigger respect towards teacher as they are first target of angry parents who don't like that their precious little angel got detention as a result of not doing their homework or for bullying or something.
Something that the article does not mention is the lenght of the school days. From what I've understood kids in US have longer school days with no recess except for lunch hour. I can't imagine myself as a kid in systems like that. (Usually there is 15 minute recess after every 45 minute lesson or 30 to 45minutes for lunch) Like for example on first grade I had schooldays that lasted for 4 hours/lessons max. (Monday 10-14, Tuesday 8-11 and so on) And teachers were/are able to split their class in half, to get smaller groups. => One group comes earlier than other and the other leaves later than the other. Teachers get more time with individual students.
