You mean treating children like they're intelligent by explaining things to them is more effective than treating them like sub-human animals!? </fake shock> I know. You'd almost think we were civilized human beings. Hey now. We don't take too kindly to talk of "civilized" and "human beings" 'round these here parts.

Just found out that I have Italian mixed in there somewhere. So multiple Native American tribes, African American (the ancestor in question was a slave, so I don't know if I'll find out where her family was from, exactly), just about the whole of Europe (German, Irish, Scottish, English, Italian, French)...next thing you know, I'll find out I have ancestors from China. Or Japan. Or that crazy piece of land currently called Russia. Heinz 57 is my race, but they won't let me put that on any of the questionnaires I get.

My mom used the belt until my youngest brothers were about 5, then it was all screaming, guilt-tripping, making us feel like worthless pieces of crap, and threatening us with a belt until we saw through the bluffs.

One of my brothers. I swear, he just TRIES to piss me off sometimes. I was watching some show about brides who compete through their weddings for a kickass honeymoon because I'd seen in the Guide that one of them was Halloween themed (it sucked, unfortunately) and he comes in and makes fun of me for being a "typical woman, watching those girly wedding shows". Then he mocked one of the brides who panicked after unknowingly eating nuts in a falafel for asking the others if she was displaying symptoms of an allergic reaction.
Now that I'm on the computer, he comes in and blabs loudly to my dad and one of my other brothers; even though I have snug headphones on, I can hear him OVER DOUG WALKER SCREAMING AT ALASKA.
I can't wait to go home.

According to the article, three children, in three different locales, have turned up dead recently, and the only thing they had in common were that copies of the Pearls' book were found in them, and that the parents were implementing things from that text. ...in the houses, right? And not the kids themselves? Please tell me you just accidentally a word and that it's not what I'm thinking. Poor kids...I'm glad that the Pearls are getting more attention (I can distinctly remember being astonished that there weren't many quotes by them on the mainpage and submitting some of my own from their newsletter) but how many kids have to die before these negligent twits are, I dunno, PUNISHED in some manner for their idiocy and hate? From daleslady48: ...holy hell, lady. I don't like kids, but that's why I don't want to become a mother; you don't like kids, so...you...have them? Wha?

Welcome to the forums! Now...tell me more about this...vegetarian carnivorism. I'm intrigued. Thank you for the welcome! ;D I am a mass of contradictions already, so I suppose another one is just inevitable. An unfortunate side-effect of one of my auto-immune disorders is that an increasing proportion of my alimentary canal is becoming paralysed. Over the years I have had to adjust my diet to cope; I was diagnosed with a gluten enteropathy nearly twenty years ago. I discovered a few weeks ago, that I can no longer digest meat. So although I remain mentally a carnivore, I have had to transfer my flesh-eating habits to eggs, cheese and the occasional piece of fish. Holy geeze, that SUCKS. D: I would go mad if I couldn't eat the things I like (technically, I SHOULDN'T eat the things I like). And no chocolate? Dear gods.

I can see a 2-piece, if it's not ridiculous. But toddlers should not be wearing a bandeau top. Those are for covering breasts, and toddlers lack them. String bikinis are equally tasteless. Toddler =/= tart. Hel, I'd probably dress a toddler girl in just the bottoms. She has nothing up top to offend anybody anyway. But then all the pedos will see her tater tots and it'll be her fault when she's raped!

Isn't that line technically from Jesus? Therefore, they don't need to pay attention to it!

Now here is where I'm going to disagree with you, vehemently! In western industrialized societies like Australia, Canada, the UK and the US kids are incredibly lucky to be getting mandatory secondary education. I completely fail to see how getting near-universal literacy and numeracy is a bad thing! The issue with high schools typically is NOT "oh no they're making us LEARN STUFF!" nor is that the point Rage is making. Granted, some morons equate high school with slavery (I'm not even kidding) but again, that is NOT what Rage was saying. He was talking about the social situations and issues that come part-and-parcel with high school attendance and how these issues are handwaved away by adults. Also, since you find the idea that others have it worse therefore people have no reason to complain, I assume you have no issue with corporal punishment that doesn't break bones and that you think American atheists are idiots for complaining about the problems they have that seem minor in comparison to the executions faced by atheists in some other countries.
