Funny how different aspects of society can lag behind one another. Gay marriage was one of the things that Mandela brought in not long after ascending the Presidency: The problem is, his successor is basically a right arsehole. For example, he brought in the idea that black people should replace white people in jobs, regardless of whether they're qualified or not. The result of this has been many white South Africans emigrating abroad, leaving the country without many of its neccessary workforce who were needed to make the 'Rainbow Nation' work. His successor is also notably homophobic and has allied himself very closely with Mugabe - even to the extent of claiming that any outside nations that are critical of SA are racist or colonialist. Basically, the country is in a mess and it needs someone like Mandela to come back in and sort it out. |
