www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/05/01/60minutes/main4061656.shtmlBasically, this man was killed by friendly fire. But instead of just saying that, the military; made up this big war hero story to tell everyone, downplayed the fact that he was an atheist, blamed his family's atheism as the reason why they "wouldn't let it go" when they challenged the military about the cover-up, tried to do a military funeral even though he didn't want one, made a public announcement about his reason for enlisting even though he didn't want them to, and burned his uniform/diary/etc. He was made into propaganda, in other words. Shit just seems so Cold War.

See, LHM, this is what you start to look like when you start going on about things against the police. Not saying you are like this, but just as a frame of reference. A friendly warning towards someone who's heading down a dark, dangerous road, if you want to think of it like that. On-topic: And this is why I hate patriotism

Most conspiracy theories make sense insofar as that they include an motive & a method. This one's just kind of like "WAS HE MURDERED? HERE IS QUOTES!"

And my family wonders why I changed my mind about enlisting....
Such bullshit.

As true when you say it as it is when a fundamentalist evangelical finds a youngster reading "The Origin of the Species" and says the exact same thing. Alex Jones is to the State what Darwin is the the Church. You can't reasonably object to one and exalt the other.

There's a difference between questioning authority and automatically assuming the worst. Using a tragedy to further ones own agenda is certainly horrible when the government and military does it, and it's every bit as bad when conspiracy theorists do it.

Let's not use this man's death to fuel our conspiracy theories. Only the real ones, not the batshit ones. It was really an instance of friendly-fire that was covered up and used for propaganda.

That's what I always heard, he graduated from my high school, we renamed our "new" (not so new anymore) track/soccer/football field after him and host "Pat's Run" every summer.
