And attribute a Clark Gable quote to Bogart while you make your case: “There shouldn’t be anything controversial about a .45-caliber bullet. If it were up to me we would just throw them off the Sunshine Skyway bridge and be done with it…In the words of Humphrey Bogart [sic], ‘Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.’ I am so tired of being humane to inhumane people.” -Florida Rep. Brad DrakeA bill filed Tuesday by Rep. Brad Drake, R-Eucheeanna, would allow for executions by firing squad. HB 325 would eliminate Florida’s standard method of execution, lethal injection, and allow for executions only by electrocution or firing squad. In a Waffle House in DeFuniak Springs, Drake said he heard a constituent say, “‘You know, they ought to just put them in the electric chair or line them up in front of a firing squad.’” After a conversation with the person, Drake, 36, said he decided to file the bill. …There have been problems in the past with electrocutions. In the late 1990s Florida’s electric chair, known as “Old Sparky,” left one death row inmate convicted of a triple-homicide alive for moments after the electrocution, and sparked a fire on another inmate’s face during the execution. Drake does not share those concerns. pamshouseblend.firedoglake.com/2011/10/14/21451/I first parsed that as "R-Euthanasia." No joke. Stay classy, Florida.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

Nice. Actually admitting to his constituents that he wants to be inhumane.

Couldn't it be firing squad OR lethal injection?
Also, pop culture FAIL.

I don't agree with the sentiment of Rep. Drake. I think capital punishment should be abolished completely. But I think that the difference between dying immediately and dying after two minutes of, yes, pain, is a minor one, and if the injection method makes problems (as it does, getting the meds), then this can be taken as an opportunity to ....... as I was saying, abolish it.

Couldn't it be firing squad OR lethal injection No. Lethal injection doesn’t give you the same revenge-gasm.

If I had to pick, I'd probably prefer a bullet to the brain. So I support bringing back firing squads.

If I had to pick, I'd probably prefer a bullet to the brain. So I support bringing back firing squads. Except firing squads aren’t a quick single bullet to the brain. I figure, all things considered, a bullet to the brain would probably be more humane to the condemned than a firing squad. But then, Representative Drake made it all too clear that this has nothing to do with being humane.

Couldn't it be firing squad OR lethal injection? Also, pop culture FAIL. How about a firing squad that shoots lethal injections! Also, firing squad generally shoots for the chest, not the head.

All other things aside, I don't believe in that "better person" crap. To me, it's just something someone says as rationalization. "I didn't get completely screwed over, I'm just the better man!"

I'm a biased mofo on this due to some RL circumstances when I was a kid, but I'm generally for the firing squad just because ammo's a fuckton cheaper.

Oh do we charge a bullet fee like in China?
Now if it has to be death by a single bullet, I say that no one pulls an actual trigger. Instead you put in one bullet into an automated gun and then start the countdown.
