Well, my dad started showing my nephew the Star Wars movies when he was about 5. But I don’t think he had the attention span to sit through the whole thing. Doesn’t stop him from loving the toys and action figures, though. I expect he may be at least 7 before he actually gets through any of the movies.
The movies are PG, except for Revenge of the Sith, which is PG-13. So it is really up to the individual parent’s judgement, based on what that parent considers objectionable.
Also depends on the kid’s sensibilities. If the child has difficulty with darker themes, for example, you might want to hold off on Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith, even if it wouldn’t be objectionable on other grounds.

What is the best age to first show a girl Star Wars? I've been asking myself the same question....mine's 2 and I think I may have waited too long What we've come up with is this: we're going to put the movie on and let her wander in and out while she plays, in hopes that she starts to absorb some of it. i wouldn't even bother with the first three, except I think Jar-Jar and younger Yoda might draw her in

Pre-natal. Just put the headphones on the belly. This, it is never to early. I saw The Empire Strikes Back in the theater when it was first released. I was three!

Pre-natal. Just put the headphones on the belly. As long as you make an exception for the prequels.

I like the putting the movie on and letting her wander through idea. I'll borrow that. Thanks. And yeah, definitely talking about A New Hope. It was the first one I saw, and the next one I saw was actually Jedi, I didn't see Empire until much later. As for the "first" 3... maybe when she's old enough to appreciate why they aren't really cannon.

I saw it for the first time begining to end when I was in middle school. But that was mostly because my father was more of a Trek fan. I litterally grew up watching Star Trek.

An do you think you were disadvantaged by waiting so long? I'm worried that if its left too long, it doesn't become the fundamental core aspect of one's psyche that it needs to be.

No, not really. I bored easily as a child and had a hard time sitting through movies that weren't made specifically for children.

For me it was Tuesday Ghostbusters. Been a fan since I was three. It probably helped that the animated series was airing on television around that time as well.

I litterally grew up watching Star Trek. Same. Star Trek was like family night for us. I can actually remember watching 'The Best of Both Worlds' episodes when they first aired, despite having been quite young at the time. LHM, clearly you must introduce her to the vastly superior Trek franchise. But I guess 5 is a good age to let her watch Star Wars, too. Give her a stick or something so she can pretend it's a light saber, and she'll have a blast pretending to fight the bad guys along with the heroes. Random side note: You posted an image of your daughter in another thread a while back. I didn't get a chance to say this then, so I'll say it now: Your daughter is freaking adorable.

I saw the full trilogy at 2. I turned out....actually wait, I turned out to be extremely into BDSM. Hm.
