How do these people find other people who will tolerate their behaviour for more than a second?

Oh, for a minute I thought this was about the comic book writer. I'm glad it's not.

....This does not strike me as religious or philosophical, so why is it here again?

Since it deals with the legal system, I would think it would end up more in politics.

How do these people find other people who will tolerate their behaviour for more than a second? Fear that someone will kill you if you try to leave or speak out is a devastatingly powerful thing.

I appreciate that... what I don't quite understand is how people get into that position in the first place.

Maybe they think they don't deserve better.

Sometimes those people don't show their true form until later on down the line. When you're already invested in them.

Sometimes those people don't show their true form until later on down the line. When you're already invested in them. My ex-stepfather didn't until after my mother was pregnant with my brother. And then he had the lever he needed to keep her under his thumb. Whether or not she should have conceded that power to him is another thing altogether, but chalk it up to poor self esteem and bad experiences.

Iron frying pan to side of hubby's head. This is great for modifying behavior.

Iron frying pan to side of hubby's head. This is great for modifying behavior. Yes, because nothing quite says "I hate spousal abuse" than threatening your husband with beating them with an iron pan. Now, if it was in self-defense, that would be one thing. Sorry, I just hate the whole "Female-on-male abuse is comedy" trope, especially with how it's applied to real life.

I think if it's for the purpose of preventing the idiot from shooting at her or poking her with a cattle prod, I'd say it qualifies as self defence, or if not at the very least it's a justified use of force.
