Nope. The apropriate category to compare atheists to is theists. And I'd be willing to wager that there are simply more theistic philosophies than there are atheistic ones. For the purpose of this post, all religions are philosophies.
Though you do bring up a surprisingly good point with the kill count thing. There's a reason the bodycount seems to swell between WWI & the Cold War.

Though you do bring up a surprisingly good point with the kill count thing. There's a reason the bodycount seems to swell between WWI & the Cold War. Which is why, if you are going to compare atrocities committed by theists and atheists, what needs to be compared is not the number of deaths, but the percentage of the population. And sure enough, none of the atheist-committed atrocities listed have any percentage, just numbers. All of them (except the Reign of Terror, which was not done by an atheist) were from the twentieth century. It looks like someone is deliberately being disingenuous.

I'm kind of impressed that person had the balls to admit that Christianity committed any atrocities at all. I shouldn't have to settle for that. But they always do list the dumbest people on "atheism's" side. I doubt many of them even know what Robespierre was doing, except killing a bunch of people. Robespierre was actually a deist (he believed in a God but not religion) who spoke out against atheism many times. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximilien_Robespierre#Cult_of_the_Supreme_Being)

"God knew you before you were born..he knows every hair on your head."
So, essentially what you're saying is that he knew I wasn't going to believe in him and wind up hell bound. He also knew that I was going to be into BDSM, which apparently is a hedonistic roller coaster to hell.

That's Calvinism for you.
Reminds me of Landover, which said kids born with deformities must have pissed God off before they were born.

My dad used that same phrase on me that I posted above..hes a...very special man..lol
I really dont get why it's so epically important to have people try these crazy fucked up methods to get people to convert. As if, all of a sudden, because they said some screwed up shit I'm gonna say, "oh! All this time! I've been so lost! Thank you Jeebus!"... sad really..

Reminds me of Landover, which said kids born with deformities must have pissed God off before they were born. Except Landover is a Poe. The argument has been used before though. Anyway I've never really gotten a satisfactory creationist answer for my 11th finger.

Maybe just need to do it better. Every other week it seems I am being rescued from some damned religion that has all the answers written down in an archaic tome. More than once, I have walked away from annoying fundies like that. "Huh, I never thought about [weak ass argument] like that. Man, makes you think." as I walk away. More often than not, it'll stop them just long enough for you to escape or them to find someone else to bother.

I get a lot of people praying for me because I'm rather obviously handicapped. It amuses me because according to their beliefs God made me this way.

I've heard it used seriously.
Supposed to be one of those "If you didn't have that deformity, you'd do something absolutely horrible" arguments.

Wytch: That should really come second to what was actually happening. As Brendan said, putting numbers up is just disingenuous. The context heavily hints that Robespierre was a genocidal fascist dictator in the 30's-50's. That's nowhere near the truth! Except maybe the genocide part. Depends on how you define that.

You'll thank Him if you ever have a horrific accident, or if you get in trouble with the mob.
