Has anyone seen the film or read the book? i've just finished with the film and i am quite impressed with it, the woman who played that religious nut did her job exellentlly i think out of the whole film she was the best actor going the action scenes i thinm could have been better the mostly just stood around like idiots the ending i think could have been done a little better though. So what are you thoughs on the film or the book did you like it?, hate it? what are your thoughts on he characters could they have been better? tell me your thoughts.

I've read the novella and seen the movie. Personally, I liked everyone in it...they all played their parts well. The people "standing around like idiots" were acting the way normal people ("normal" here meaning the 90%+ of the population who haven't been specifically trained to deal with real-life violence) typically do when confronted by violence...they froze and weren't sure what to do.
SPOILER ALERT!
I preferred the movie ending to the book ending, and Stephen King commented that if he had thought of it first, he would have used it. Stranded in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by monsters, the father kills off the other survivors to save them the agony and horror of being eaten alive...and finds out a short time later that the reason they didn't find any help was simply because they were going the wrong way. THAT is the sort of bleak, realistic nihilism that few directors of horror movies have the courage to embrace. What destroys us in the end usually isn't a huge disaster or epic amounts of enemies gunning us down...it's making a tiny, unimportant-seeming mistake such as whether to go left or right and choosing left when right would lead to safety.

I liked both, they both stood on their own merits.
I remember being pissed off about the movie Misery, but when I think about it, if they had been 100% true to the book, people would of been barfing in the isles.
Geralds game is one of my favourite books, but it's not movie material. 90 minutes of a woman laying there handcuffed to the bed with her dead husband laying on the floor beside her?

How the Hell'd that happen? Read the book ;D Hidden spoiler Geralds game is handcuffs, he loves to handcuff his wife to the bed. So they go up to the cabin after the season is over, handcuffs his wife to the bed and drops dead with a heart attack. There she is, stuck to the bed, keys sitting on top of the dresser. Nobody around for miles so screaming is useless, the phone is out in the hallway, so she's basically screwed.

Although I get the feeling it's not going to be rainbows & butterflies, & it's probably going to ruin my day. Seriously, that's just fucked up.

Yeah, well when your into bondage yourself, that book is the stuff of nightmares. Now I don't want to be tied up with anything I couldn't chew through in case of an emergency.
As for how the book ends,
Hidden spoiler She bangs her head against a shelf over the headboard until a bottle falls down, she smashes the bottle and uses the broken glass to slit her wrists so she can use the blood as lubricant, and peels the skin off her hand while pulling it through.

Well, I suppose the message of the book is: Take safety precautions. ...I'm gonna go back to screaming, now.

I've never read the book but I've seen the movie and frankly it's a favourite of mine. I actually loved the ending I think it was very fitting... and I cheered when the religious bitch died.

Loved the novella, hated the movie.
In the meantime, I am eagerly awaiting the Dark Tower movies, out in 2015 (I hope).

I loved the film. I was watching it with my extremely angry friend kelli at the time. When the tentacle thing came under the door and tore off part of the guys shoulder, I turned to kelli and said "huh, I didnt know your vagina was in this movie"
I promptly got thrown across the room

Abrams was on the late nite circuit for Star trek he would be asked about this. I really thought Colbert would. But I did like the novella. I just love how most of his books can be linked with the Dark Tower. edit: Just remembered that they had a blatant Dark Tower reference in the beginning of the move. Made my day when I saw it.

Yeah, that book pretty much turned me off kinky bondage shit stronger than velcro. I don't have enough traumatic shit in my past to keep me occupied for that long.

As one who is also a fan of Stephen King in general, and the Dark Tower saga in particular, I also am thrilled to learn of movies (and there will be more than one, unless the movie makers go the Shogun/ Lonesome Dove route with a six- or eight-hour friggin' epic) being made from the books. This prospect, of course, leads one to speculate on who would be best cast as the various significant characters (not counting Stephen King himself, of course ).
