Seeing as the US has a higher population than it did back then, less women could be having babies, but there still could be more births overall.
Its still a misleading statistic.

Yeah, well, "For behold, the days are coming when they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.'" Luke 23:29Now, waitaminnit -- you're quote mining. That's Jesus on the way to be crucified, and he's telling the women present, "hey, you think things are bad now, its gonna get worse." I agree with you -- the original article is a load of crap, but the Bible verse you cite doesn't make your argument for you. (Actually, I suspect you knew that already....)

Looks like the usual combination of self righteousness and envy. "All these people do is participate in fun and exciting activities without having to worry about babysitters, and talk about their non-child-related interests. It's so disgusting! Everyone should want to make babies for Jesus!"
Funny that he'd say this, since "who's going to take care of you when you're old" is such a common bingo. Someone even uses it in this article's comments.
Reproducing for the purpose of creating someone who feels obligated to feed and wipe you when you're too old to do it. = Good. Pointing out the fact that having children doesn't necessarily mean they'll take care of you. = Selfish and wrong.

"Who's going to take care of you when you get old?"
"Well, hopefully I'll be able to take care of myself. If not, I'll hire a cute nurse and pretend to be going senile as an excuse to constantly grab her butt, peek up her skirt and hit on her with pick-up lines that are popular now, but will be outdated by then."

Quote: Christians must recognize that this rebellion against parenthood represents nothing less than an absolute revolt against God's design. The Scripture points to barrenness as a great curse and children as a divine gift.
OH okay, so I'm cursed now? some sin I committed in childhood or something maybe my parents did caused me to have my fertility issues since puberty? I get it now. What a load of ....
On a related note I had an interesting conversation with my conservative christian father recently. He was arguing that while men aren't better than women God did design them to have different purposes, roles, strengths, etc. He was saying women were designed by god to be more nurturing because they take care of the children, while men are more leaders because they go out and take care of the household etc. Pretty sexist but he's in his 60's, he's from a different time so I try to cut him some slack.
So I replied that if it god's design for women to bear and raise children then my infertility means that god has made sure that I can never fulfill the perfect design/purpose he has for me (and i guess all women). So by the fact that I'm trying to pursue degrees and a professional career, I'm rebelling against gods design. He said that wasn't what he was trying to say and he told me I have every right to pursue a career but I was trying to get him to think critically about the position he was asserting. I also tried to explain that beliefs like his (that women as a majority belong in the home) is what made it so difficult for women to pursue professional and scientific careers. Many men often harassed women who tried to enter the professional realm in the 50's, believing they were taking these jobs from men who needed them to support their families...I know I've gone off on a tagent but it just pisses me off when people convey the message that women are nothing but a womb.

I think the best way to deal with these idiots is to simply not have any children. While they are slaving away around a stove/kitchen/laundry machine for 10 kids and a lazy douche of a husband, I'll be travelling Europe or contributing my expendable income to progressive charities or political organizations. Instead of trying to bash them over the head with a stick to make them learn, lets be more insidious and turn their dozen kids against them with education and politics.

I have more respect for couples who adopt several orphans rather than than birthing a dozen kids that you can't feed on your own for Jebus.

Once you call on "God's perfect design" your argument has collapsed.

Do they really want us to have lots of athiest babies who will grow up to be voters? It's not enough to just have babies. You're supposed to convert to their brand of True Christianity and then indoctrinate your babies so they'll grow up to be decent, heterosexual, christian voters. After all they're really God's property anyway. It may sound like they're trying to run people's lives but they're only doing it for their own good / out of love / because God told them to.

Label me whatever the fuck you want, the fact of the matter is I hate kids and I'm sure as hell never producing them. They're my bloody testicles, whether or not I choose to fertilise something is my own goddamn business.
