I know someone else started it at the old board, but this is too good to just let it slide away.
My piece:
There are 2 forms of afterlife, hell, and the other place where you suck God's dick, FOREVER.

Actually, it was the snake that brought knowledge and freedom to Adam and Eve, not Satan.
Funny how the snake was made out to be a villain while Prometheus was made out to be a hero

I was just bored & that was my ill-conceived attempt to attract some trolls. I eventually did, but I missed them every time they showed up. Edit: Zachski, everyone I've ever talked to says it's so obvious that the snake is Satan. So, we may as well count them as the same entity, for the sake of the argument. Edit 2: The stories really are a lot alike. The snake/Prometheus didn't unleash evil on the world, God/Zeus did that because they didn't like being second-guessed. |

Satan is apparently described as being a serpent a few times, I don't know, but popular opinion is that the snake is Satan, & since the Bible is pretty much an all-white rubix cube when it comes to interpretations, why the Hell not?

I prefer to think that (assuming christianity were something other than a pile of male bovine feces) that god is actually the evil one, and that despite his lies (creationism, being all powerful, all the various contradictions in the bible, etc), people are easily temped by the promise of eternal life in "heaven" and as a result the vast majority now follow him (the bible does say that "satan" will rule the world around now, I think).
Satan, OTOH, is the good one. He promises knowledge and enlightenment while god demands ignorance. I've still yet to decide what side Jesus is actally on, although I'm leaning towards satan and god just hijacked his followers by claiming Jesus was his son.
Gee, I wonder if I should start my own religion?

I'm actually talking about how there's little to no evidence for both the rapture and Satan being evil/the snake inside the Bible. It's kinda sad that much of Christianity is based not on the Bible, but what people say about the Bible. Of course, not that I'm anything resembling a Christian anymore. |

And getting into the falsifiability of popular opinions is just like...what? We're arguing that if, theoretically, if God & Satan exist, Satan is the good one.
Really, the "evidence" is too vague for me to say one way or another that it was intended to be implied that Satan was the serpent. Hence, "the Bible is an all-white rubix cube, when it comes to interpretations."

For another: Do they explicitly define him as the original serpent? Is Satan defined as a serpent because serpents are, at the time of writing, considered a negative symbology BECAUSE of the "Eden Snake"? That's something to think about. And all I did was point out that there is no evidence that says that the Eden Snake is Satan, in which you jumped in and tried to correct me. You didn't contribute much to the topic either (other than say that you started the topic on the old board), so it's a bit hypocritical of you to accuse me of being off-topic. Well, sure, if you pick, mix, and match verses from all over the Bible, irregardless of who wrote what when, then you CAN come up with any interpretation. Fundies do this all the time. That's how they started the Rapture myth and many other things that the Bible, when read with an unbiased eye, does not support. EDIT: Also, if the Bible-God is evil, then Satan is also evil because Satan actually works/worked for God as his prosecutor/tester. At least until you get into the new testament in which Jesus says he sees Satan falling. But if we're going by the standard mythology, then yes, I guess one could put it that Satan is good because he opposes a childish, immature, bipolar deity. |
