So I keep hearing about the gay agenda from conservative media. They all seem to insist it's a "Very Bad Thing" without going into any details about what it is. But they are very willing to say what will happen if/when unsaid plans come to fruition. Namely, my kids will be terrorized somehow. But, again, they never say how this will happen or give us signs to look for. Some legislation? Some sort of '60s style marching in the streets? Apparently we're just supposed to take "Dr." Dobson's word for it. For the life of me until just a few minutes ago when I decided to Wiki it, ( clickey for Wiki) I had no idea what they were talking about. So I learned it's all a dastardly plot to get members of the LBGT to be treated with the same respect and be given the same rights as anyone else in America. Ok. But how exactly does that hurt my kids? In fact, why is that bad at all? (I mean, besides "'Cause the bible said so".) From what I could tell from a few different sites, including conservative sites such as Concerned Women of America and (really) Focus on the family, the "agenda" doesn't want me to stop being straight. It is just pushing for Adam and Steve, Adam and Eve, and Madam and Eve to all have the exact same rights in the eyes of the law and indeed society. How does that hurt anyone? (I mean, besides "'Cause the bible said so".) How does that effect my kids in any bad way at all? In fact I teach them to treat everyone the same (except me and the missus, who should be worshiped as demigods) so this would actually fall in line with my values that I'm trying to instill on my kiddies. In all seriousness, I cannot see how it's a bad thing unless there's more that I'm not seeing. And I doubt that's the case. Someone please help me see what the hell the big deal is. Thanks.

The big deal is that being a homosexual is considered an abomination - like pig fucking or watching Twilight and enjoying it.
Any endorsement of an abomination is an endorsement of sin...at least that's the way I understand it.

considered an abomination - like pig fucking or watching Twilight and enjoying it. Best. Line. Ever. Kudos to you, sir! Also, the Gay Agenda is just another fear mongering tactic to keep the sheeple from actually thinking about the issue logically. Stating that someone has an agenda strikes fear into the hearts of the unwashed masses by making them think that someone is systematically out to get them. Same reason you often hear politicians refer to their opponents' agenda.

What I never understand is how conservatives get so pissed off when they think something will tell kids that homosexuality is normal. What, so your getting pissed off becuase your kids arent going to grow up as hateful fuckers?

But asking for equal rights does not sound like an evil plan. (ATTENTION: I did't really believe that gays were trying to take over the world, but just like rookie the only times I heard the gay agenda mentioned it was when some right wing nut was screaming about it.)

The "Gay Agenda" does not exist except by reference: it's basically a right-wing meme, like crocoduck and that other one. Conservapedia illustrates the meme in use—direct references regarding the "Gay Agenda" refer to other right-wing sources and the occasional quote mine. ...at least, that's what we tell the people who don't subscribe to our super-secret special mailing list. Oh, dear. I have said too much. [/sardonism]

I came out thirteen years ago and I still haven't gotten my copy of the Agenda.
National Homosexual Headquarters says they're very backed up because of our constant efforts to destroy traditional American family values.

Apparently you'll have to answer questions from your children like, "Why are those two women holding hands?" And this is very, very, very bad. Much worse than answering questions like, "Is my dog gonna die?" or "Why are all those people in Iran so angry?"

Of course they were handing them out during the last "Vast Left Wing Agenda Meeting."

I keep skipping the VLWA meetings to attend the dark masses where we worship Barack Obama. And the Anti-Christ, but its the same difference.

MD Bear, maybe you don't have your copy because we live in such a blue state. Maybe they assume you (me too I guess, living with a 410 area code) would know it instinctively. Feel free to click the Wiki link up there and download the copy.
I've figured out this much. By controlling what people feel (like what to be afraid of) you can influence their actions. Pat Robertson scaring those who can't or won't think and then saying how he is fighting for you. So now I'm supposed to think "well, he's fighting for me. How can I help him keep the Pink Menace from harming me or mine? Where's my checkbook? By the hammer of Thor, I'm going to support him with 'prayer' (read legal tender for all debts, public and private)." Yeah, I learned a bit as a Republican.

Much worse than answering questions like, "Is my dog gonna die?" or "Why are all those people in Iran so angry?" I am not a parent. But I can tell you that the worst feeling in the world is having to explain to a three-year-old why all of those people on the television are hurt and dying. My little cousin had been in the room with my grandfather watching the news during Israel's strike on Gaza. My grandfather was asleep, so my cousin came to ask me what was going on. Personally, I'd rather explain why the two ladies on the bus were holding hands than explain war to a child.

Personally, I'd rather explain why the two ladies on the bus were holding hands than explain war to a child. You've got a valid point. Even for a parent who has strong moral objections to homosexuality, you'd think explaining a same sex couple holding hands would be a lot easier than explaining something like the 9/11 attacks.
