Born male, though saw the light and realized nature played an incredibly cruel joke on me, and now female (and I love girls ;D. I guess you could call me pre-op... I am _not_ afraid of people knowing, and i'm fully out in my RL. Be afraid! Much love and respect for that.

That makes sense of course. Yeah. I admit, I don't know if it's completely true, though. It's just an observation based on my experience. But I don't think most people ever really need to consider it unless it's brought up by an external source. Of course, when there's something out of sync, it's much easier to start thinking about the nature of gender identity.

I'm sorry, I think some people have way too much time on their hands. Cisgender? Really? Will you please elaborate? What's your actual objection? I don't understand much Latin but this is at least basically true: Trans = Latin for "across", "through" or "between". Cis = Latin for "on this side" or "the near side". The opposite of trans is cis. It makes sense that if someone whose gender is different from their natal sex is transgendered, someone whose gender matches their natal sex can be called cisgendered. The English language is all the better for having a word for it. This is the first time in my life I've ever heard of anyone finding it necessary to invent a new word for being comfortable with one's own gender. Seriously. Soon there's going to be a word for every single granular aspect of gender and sexual identities and the acronyms aren't going to fit on the damn manifesto anymore.

Soon there's going to be a word for every single granular aspect of gender and sexual identities and the acronyms aren't going to fit on the damn manifesto anymore. Maybe you've never heard of it, and the term is fairly 'new' (originated about 1994), and a little gander into Wikipedia shows at least the term is a known one. And as alwimo pointed out, all it does is state a specific condition, as denoted by the name. What is wrong with coming up with a word to better describe a certain condition or situation? Also, what manifesto is there? Sexuality and gender identity is hardly binary, tertiary or even quaternary, it forms a whole spectra of different aspects and so forth. Shit doesn't line up into neat little categories, especially considering that there will always be grey areas and unknowns. All you are objecting to is a label, and a pretty apt one at that.

It seems like saying "lol 'heterosexual'? Some people have too much time on their hands" in 1883 (15 years after the word was coined). After all, the word ""heterosexual" is suggested to have come into use as a neologism after, and opposite to the word "homosexual" by Karl Maria Kertbeny in 1868". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heterosexual#Terminology

re: the LGBT acronym.
aka LGBTQQIP-etc.
I don't think cisgenderism would be added to that...

It's nice to have a one word answer, too, for describing people whose gender and body match up. I used to use "normal" though I was loathe to. Heterosexual describes people who are interested in the opposite sex, so why not have a term to describe people whose gender identity is in keeping with their bodies, even if they are the majority? Oh, by the manifesto you mean the LGBT acronym? aka LGBTQQIP-etc. I don't think cisgenderism would be added to that... Considering "heterosexual" isn't in there, yeah.

I think having a word for people who's gender identity matches up with their reproductive sex is a good idea, it highlights the fact that it's not always the case, that people who are different then the usual exist.

(Seconded, anti-nonsense!)
Cisgendered female. I want to know why there are so many more cisgendered males than cisgendered females.

Male. In fact, nothing scares me more than the idea of waking up one morning with a vagina. I love women through and through, but I love being a man.

Um do you have this thought often? maybe you should consult a professional hey i wonder if it is a recognised phobia? I'm female and I can't say the thought of waking up with a penis has ever even crossed by mind (although knowing my brain it probably will tonight)

I'm female and I can't say the thought of waking up with a penis has ever even crossed by mind (although knowing my brain it probably will tonight) Well it rarely comes up in daily conversation. I was a bit tipsy with a friend (we were having one of those pseudo-deep conversations where everything is meaningful) and it just sort of came to me--how frightening it'd be. But no, I don't wake up every morning, have a grope, and praise Innana that it's still there.
