I'm sorry about your loss, and I'm sorry you have to face dickish internet bullshit during your grief. I've lost enough people close to me (sometimes in "stupid" accidents) to know that you don't need to hear that sort of shit right now.
Who knows what happened. Maybe his earphones were too soundproof, maybe his mind was elsewhere. Just know that our thoughts are with you.

I'm sorry that I have problems with people applying for Darwin awards. It's obvious I should have been balling my eyes out for the guy who had the idea that running on railroad tracks with music blasting is a great idea. This is exactly why the Darwin Awards were invented. Yes, it's sad for the young man's family and I understand their grief. That is not the problem. The problem is that everyone seems to think what he did was Ok and that it was "just and accident". The man, consciously and willfully, placed himself in a situation were he was killed. I'm sure none of you would have thought it was a good idea to go running in the middle of a freeway, but the railroad tracks, none of you have a problem with. Call me cold, call me any name in the book you want, it just doesn't change the facts and what the man did, was an automatic entry into the Darwin Awards and all of you would have laughed and agreed with me if and only if, none of you actually knew the person. Now, because this person had been a student of one of you, all of you went Rapture Ready on me for stirring the pot with some reality. I actually find the hypocrisy displayed by most of you in this thread, disgusting. Every one of you would have agreed with me if none of you had known the man and this had only been an article posted by a random poster as an interesting post, but now, hypocrisy ensues. You are basically no better than the worst fundies. I don't know the person and I don't agree with you. He made a dumb mistake, that does not make him a dumb person. Maybe he couldn't hear the train, maybe he thought the tracts were abandoned, I don't know, I'll never know.

(((DV)))
I feel for his family, friends, classmates and for all those at the event.
People do careless things. I've done many stupid things, some of which I paid the price for, others I've gotten away with. A few bad decisions doesn't mean we don't care about a person. All of us on this forum have something in common and while we all have our own opinions on the incident we all should be there for DV.
"All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated...As therefore the bell that rings to a sermon, calls not upon the preacher only, but upon the congregation to come: so this bell calls us all: but how much more me, who am brought so near the door by this sickness....No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

For reference: –noun Psychiatry. a person, as a psychopathic personality, whose behavior is antisocial and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience. You really have no idea why people are pissed at you, do you? Consider this your official warning. Stay the fuck out of this thread if you can't even dredge up a "Sorry for your loss, DV." Nobody asked you to say the guy didn't make a really really stupid decision. Nobody asked you to pretend like the engineer and his family weren't affected by this. Everyone has simply asked you to, you know, have some respect for DV's feelings. Again, this is a formal warning on the whole "dick" thing. You're being one. I invite you to try and argue your case, too. In PM or Flame and Burn. I'd really love to rip someone a new asshole right now.

Did you even bother to read anything posted here that wasn't penned by YOU?
I just quoted YOU saying that you DIDN'T feel sorry for those very people, you lying worm. You have just damned yourself with your very own words. XPointless fixating on single act and cold disregarding of the rest of a man's life and the affects his absence will have on others snipped for sanity's sakeX Call me cold, call me any name in the book you want, Since (despite your attention whoring) this isn't about you I won't give you the satisfaction of telling you what type of cowardly, prepubescent troll you appear to be.
*edit
Never mind, I just finished the thread and read nappy's comments.

He did a stupid thing. It doesn't make me cut off normal human feeling for the fact that he won't be around and alive anymore. I'm not defending anyone's choice to run on the tracks with their Ipod in. But I'll defend my right to grieve the loss of a person I knew, regardless of how he died. The majority of us completely understand this. Compassionate people don't have to be told to put themselves in someone else's shoes. headache obviously doesn't fit into that category.

I guess headache hasn't lost anyone close to him in abnormal circumstances. And if he has I don't see how he can act like this infront of the person who knew the deceased. As someone said before, stupid death or not, talking about the deceased like that infront of dantesvirgil aint cool. Last October a close friend of mine hung himself, and an old teacher of mine was murdered recently ( www.independent.ie/national-news/romanian-police-hold-man-after-irish-mum-murdered-1648382.html) Both were avoidable deaths, perhaps you'd like to talk shit about about one of my best friends and the only teacher I liked at my school and who got me into university after I'd fucked up my A-levels? Fucking psychopathe.

Yup. People aren't the sum total of one mistake, although that gives some people an excuse to avoid anything resembling humanitarian thoughts and feelings.

When you don't agree with someone, use your "powers" and ban and tell people that having different opinions is not acceptable. Gotcha! FSTDT the new Rapture Ready! That's great!

You idiot. We're not asking you to agree with us, we're asking you to show some fucking respect. A friend of an old and beloved poster has died. It is the height of assholeishness to tell the bereaved that the dearly departed had it coming. Fuck off.

So you've never done anything stupid in your entire life that you could of died from? Never? Not even took your eyes off the road to change radio channels?
If you say yes, you're either a liar, or never left your parents basement.
