Did they flip shit about the new Futurama episode? Please tell me they flipped shit about the new Futurama episode. You'll have to enlighten this non-Futurama watcher about that episode's main focus.

Sorry, no RR shit flipping. A search for 'Futurama' did bring up a thread with a bunch of people whining about a proposed 'Jesus' cartoon from back in June, though.

Doesn't Lucifer originally mean "light" or "stars"? Seems like a sensible thing to name a telescope.

It's Latin for "light bearer." It actually appears in the Bible (Isaiah 14:12), but I remember reading *something* about how it didn't refer to Satan at all, but to the king of... damn it. Stupid sieve-like recall. ETA: I found something vaguely related to the topic, but it's just some dude's blog. Then again, I don't really feel like doing in-depth research. >.> burningtaper.blogspot.com/2006/02/lucifer-son-of-morning-howl.html

Lucifer is the male counterpart of Venus, represented by the same planet in Roman mythology. I believe he is referred to as the Light Bearer (or Dawn Bringer) because Venus is often most visible before the dawn.
Side Note: Lucifer was a minor Roman god representing wisdom. Kinda funny, given the way Christianity made him into the anti-christ.

I thought LUCIFER was the telescope's acronym? I thought it stood for something like Large Utility Camera Intended For Extragalactic Research or something like that?
There's a whole thread in their prayer requests section praying for "Everyone who hates RR" and from what I can tell a lot of it is directed at us. Note to any RR people lurking about: I don't hate you guys. I think that a lot of you are good, but misguided, people. Some of you are completely reprehensible, but I don't hate you, either.

Actually, it's "Large Binocular Telescope Near-infrared Utility with Camera and Integral Field Unit for Extragalactic Research." Then again, I get the feeling that the idea for the acronym came first and they created the title from there. Either that, or they got awesomely lucky.
Anyone know which site(s) they're talking about? Because it seems like there's mention of at least two, one of which is FSTDT.
