This is just supposed to be a cute logo, right? I mean there aren't seriously trying to present information this way... are they?

You're right. Showing food on a plate is an idiotic way to show people how much food should be on their plate.

Between this and the big brotherish calorie counting cameras at kids' schools I wonder why the government has always felt a need to tell us what we should or shouldn't eat.

What camera shit are you talking about? As for why, good nutrition means a healthier society. Healthier societies are good things. It also means better soldiers. Seriously, the only reason there are school lunch programs is because the military was tired of getting malnourished recruits.

But it's really fucking creepy, Vene. Like, "Big Brother is watching you" creepy. I'm not comfortable with the government saying, "you must eat this". I mean, you know, it's the difference between, "here, have an apple," and "eat this apple or else."

And I'm still not comfortable with the government monitoring every bite of food a child takes, even if it's "only" happening in one or two schools.

What it is is collecting data that can be used to control the childhood obesity epidemic.

nobody's holding anybody at gunpoint and forcing them to eat healthy, all they are doing is providing information that people can use to eat healthier if they chose, and collecting information for statistical purposes.

My inner fundie's gibbering about the End Times and the Mark of the Beast now. I think it's neat, though. Hopefully it'll give a more accurate look at what kids are eating...
