I looked at Rapture Ready last night and I think everyone was either sleeping or too stunned to post. There were only 4 posts in the span of an hour. I expected more. Probably are now.
Pride day pride day!

Yeah, one guy says he's about to leave the state, as if that was supposed to be some kind of insult to the rest of us or something. I wish I knew where he lived so I could help him pack. Another guy says he wishes he could go with him. I finally agree with a fundie; I wish you could, too!

I heard about this last night through conversation (I was at work and sadly without access to the news). This made me happy. And the whole state, huh? Including upstate. This is awesome! Hopefully, now that a state with the size and power of New York is legalizing same-sex marriage, more will follow. I quoted you, Random, because it's pretty damn close to the very first comment I heard about it. "If a state as strong as New York passed it, there will probably be like six more by the end of the year. Then, well, [other states] should start passing it like dominoes." Well, bully for New York and all it's citizens. Now I'm off to read the fail going on over at our good friends, RR.

Even more if the Prop 8 argument finally works out for the best. Then we have both California and New York with legal gay marriages, these being the most populous states in the Union.

The problem is though a majority of the states have amendments blocking it. It would take SCOTUS to rule for equality in order to remove all of them in one fell swoop. Otherwise it's going to be a long drawn out process.
Edit: Actually... even if SCOTUS does rule for prop 8... it'll harm our efforts, but it won't hurt what we already have. They can only rule on the /bans/ on same sex marriage, not on states that have it. So in other words, they rule that prop 8 is unconstitutional, every amendment like it crumbles. Rule it is constitutional, states who have marriage don't lose it, but we don't get the far reaching destruction of the amendments we want. However, it'll put the fact that "oh, this was approved by the supreme court" into play for them.

I amazed at how quickly gay civil rights have been accepted when compared to the struggle for woman's suffrage or African American civil rights. Glad to see more and more states treating all human beings with dignity. Now, if we could just pass the damn ERA!

"If a state as strong as New York passed it, there will probably be like six more by the end of the year. Then, well, [other states] should start passing it like dominoes." If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

How close is the States now to having the same number of people with the right to gay marriage in their own state?
