It's amazing how some people still think Howard was a great guy.

It's amazing how some people still think Howard was a great guy. Look, we already have ltfred to derail threads with irrelevant ideological slurs, so please don't start. I direct you to Julia "We must stay the course in Afghanistan" Gillard.

I'd make a comment about how stupid it is to take offense to one of a few in one nation's losses compared to the fuckton of civilians and losses of other nations...but that would just go in circles

Poor fellow. It would be nice if we could GTFO of both Middle Eastern wars, but I doubt the government will do that any time soon.
On the bright side, only 28 losses so far in an almost decade long war. Considering America regularly sends planeloads of coffins home, we're doing pretty well.

So...what's going on? Just a death? Don't get me wrong, it's horrible anyone has to die in a senseless war, but I was wondering if there was something behind this.

It's sad no matter which nation they come from. You've got an otherwise healthy person dying simply because people can't learn how to get the fuck along with each other.
A guy I went to school with from kindergarten up until high school (we used to have the same babysitter and everything) died while serving in Afghanistan, and even though I hadn't seen him in several years, I bawled my eyes out. I just kept picturing him back when we were little kids... even now, I get a bit choked up thinking about it. I remember going to his facebook memorial page, and seeing that his mom had made a post quoting the whole, "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be" thing. It was really heartbreaking. I can't even imagine how hard it must have been for his family... hell, it's still gotta be hard for them. He was just a kid. Anyway, I'm getting onto a bit of a tangent here.
Point is, we shouldn't be focusing just on the ones that come from our own countries... the pain it causes is the same no matter where you go. What happened here in Canada amongst the people I know has happened in Australia, and in the US, the UK, and too many other nations, including Afghanis.
e: Clarifying why I brought up the guy I knew.

In fairness, the US has likely deployed far more troops than Australia, meaning that there's going to be a largely number of deaths.
