The best thing is, it predates social medicine and can therefore be adapted for pretty much anything.
Especially since it already has been.
Not that I'm knocking it, it makes me feel all tingly every time someone posts it.

I loved it when Olbermann had Dave Foley on because of that.

Damn. I'm not topping that any time soon. Goes to show just how different the world looks when you know what political buzzwords actually mean.

Been on Medicaid, and when I was a baby, my parents were on food stamps for a little while, because my Dad was laid off, and mom only worked PT...the good news we weren't on it for very long. Also my Dad was on SSI at the end of his life for a couple months, afterall his insides were being eaten away by cancer, and couldn't do his job at the factory. I love Social programs...and thats my story.

I can't get on food stamps because they changed the rules and going back to college means I don't qualify.

I can't get on food stamps because they changed the rules and going back to college means I don't qualify. Which is ridiculously stupid. "Hurduurrrrr? You're trying to get an education so that you can get a job so that you can afford get off welfare? Well then, you must obviously not need welfare anymore!"

You're trying to get an education so that you can get a job so that you can afford get off welfare? Well then, you must obviously not need welfare anymore!" It's just as stupid as the fact that the letter I got recently says that I cannot make any one purchase greater than a certain amount at one time or else the rest of my checks will be jerked away. It's silly. People are always like 'get off the disability! Get off the welfare!' yet the government has laws in place where you can't bring yourself up out of the hole or try to without the rest of your aid being stripped away. I know there are probably ways to do it but it is so complex and would take such a long time to do it in.

My mom got off welfare, but it really was DESPITE the government rather than because of it. They really do seem to want to punish people who take welfare money, rather than actually help them get off it and better themselves. With the years, more and more restrictions and punishments come out of the woodwork.
Not that I totally mind restrictions. When the Red Cross gave me money, they said the card could not be used for guns, booze or smokes. Seems fairly reasonable that emergency funding not be used to buy that stuff.
...Also seems kinda sad they feel the need to tell people they can't buy guns, because to me that implies there's people out there who have no homes, no food, and the clothes off their back going "I'ma get me a Beretta!"
Anyway, it's the way they make rules and the extremes to which they seem to go which bother e. The message is clear: Welfare is bad, and you're a bad person for needing welfare.

Where I live, you can have a negative net income and still somehow be considered "too rich" to qualify for food stamps or other financial aid.
Yeah.

They really do seem to want to punish people who take welfare money, rather than actually help them get off it and better themselves. With the years, more and more restrictions and punishments come out of the woodwork. Good to know it's possible. And frankly, I agree. It seems entirely designed to keep people ON it, rather than helping people get OFF of it. ; Not that I totally mind restrictions. When the Red Cross gave me money, they said the card could not be used for guns, booze or smokes. Seems fairly reasonable that emergency funding not be used to buy that stuff. ... Reasonable. Unless you need a gun for your safety. ...Also seems kinda sad they feel the need to tell people they can't buy guns, because to me that implies there's people out there who have no homes, no food, and the clothes off their back going "I'ma get me a Beretta!" Yeah... again, see above. Anyway, it's the way they make rules and the extremes to which they seem to go which bother e. The message is clear: Welfare is bad, and you're a bad person for needing welfare. ; My response to that? The day a deaf person/blind/whatever can legitimately apply for a job and be considered at the same level as a full, normal hearing person with absolutely no disabilities of any sort, with the same set of experiences and/or skills... or for that matter, have absolutely no experience and be quite willing to learn on-the-job... and not be discriminated... Is the day you can come to me and bitch about not finding a job. Or getting off of welfare. I'm using this money to better myself. And the government may well fuck me over next month. Edit: Otherwise, kindly fuck off. e.e ... Yes, I'm being rather snarky. Don't mind me, but what I say is true, in any case. :/ Apologies for the snark. Edit: Oh, and while I remember and am conscious: Let's not get into a gun debate and whether you need it or not for safety. Trust me, there're locations where you need it. Like where I am right now. (San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico, alternatively known as San Luis, Arizona, in case you're wondering. And yes, I've got body armor and the like on back order. )

I have trouble imagining you're in a Red Cross situation and need a 9 mil more than the food and clothes the aid is intended for.
Also, please don't bring up the possibility a gun is needed and then ask people not to debate whether it is needed. That's rather assholish. Especially if you're a big enough asshole to say "don't do it," then make a deliberate statement such as you did.
In essence, don't ask people to be more mature than you. Don't bring up points of argument and then tell people not to argue them.
Though honestly, I believe my own statement is irrelevant to such an argument, since it does not argue whether you need it as personal defense so much as it argues whether you need it more than, say...Food. In a disaster.
It's just annoying to see someone go...It's necessary...BUT DON'T DEBATE IT!
