Santorum's Pre-School Indoctrination

So, I was dared to Google his name. I didn't, but I still stepped in one of his piles.

Rick Santorum fired a verbal salvo at early-education programs on Tuesday, telling an Iowa crowd that government pre-school programs are part of a hideous plot by the government to indoctrinate children.

"It is a parent's responsibility to educate their children. It is not the government's job. We have sort of lost focus here a little bit," said Santorum, the Des Moines Register reports.

"Of course, the government wants their hands on your children as fast as they can. That is why I opposed all these early starts and pre-early starts, and early-early starts. They want your children from the womb so they can indoctrinate your children as to what they want them to be. I am against that."

In order to shield his own family from indoctrination, Santorum and his wife have home-schooled their seven children through the eighth grade.

I wonder if he supports prayer in school and the mandatory saying of the pledge. But I'm sure he doesn't, it would be silly for him to support indoctrination!

I agree that it is the responsibility of the parents, but that would be something as simple as having some dialog with them after school.
I've known some who have slipped through the cracks because the parents assumed that their progress was okay until some teacher in the eighth grade tells them their child has a grade 2 reading level.

On the other hand, Darkfire has exactly what I'd like to re-iterate. He wants to fuel his kids with a different sort of indoctrination.

And exactly what kind of indoctrination would be happening at a pre-school? I just don't get it. Teaching the ABCs and the 123s are part of some sadistic liberal plot to turn the next generation into a bunch of gay atheist hippies?

When I was in a Head Start program, they mostly reinforced basic counting and letter recognition.

Also, I got to count gumdrops and then eat them. OH THE HORROR.

These fucks want to return to the days where only the wealthy elite got an education. They just realize that saying as much outright would set off too many red flags. Instead they can manipulate the paranoid into fucking their progeny over even more.

*cringe* No. No way. Education of children is too important to leave to the parents. Every child should have the right to have a good education. I also believe homeschooling is okay, but the kids should have to past tests given by the government to make sure the kids weren't being taught useless bullshit by their parents.

I am very much pro homeschooling, but there should be standards to be kept up to!

I didn't have the government-sponsored tests to do, but I got lucky - My parents were genuinely interested in making sure I get an excellent education, go on to college, and get a degree, and unlike some home schooling parents, they actually put effort into achieving this.

Yes. Clearly after coming home from working an 8 hour shift, parents should do a full study course with their kids before heading out to their second job.

Sometimes I wonder if these guys are in some secret competition to see who can say the most bat shit thing.

I am becoming less sure.

They seem to be inching to just outright saying this the more they talk about it.

And I think at least 30% of Americans agree, wealthy or not.

I remember once in kindergarten I made a mess with the kitchen play set and my teacher made me pick it up. Cleaning up after yourself, oh the horror!
