I'm going to take the story at face value for the sake of this point:
Fuck Fox & fuck those whiney, entitled douche commentors. I got sent to ISS once for pushing someone. I was railroaded by my school staff MORE than once to admit to shit I didn't even do. And they're making a big fuss about this? This kid could easily be in trouble for inflammatory speech or talking in class, both of which a teacher is probably justified in giving an ISS for. Most people would just say the teacher's a jerk for enforcing such a seldomly-enforced rule, but I guess not that kid's parents.

I hate to say this, but I'm going to reserve judgment until I hear more about this.

I'm going with that the kid was probably talking during class or something like that, also I would love to see how the kid ends up...hopefully the kid would grow out of being a bigot...

Yeah, the truth is likely that he was suspended for harassing gay students or something. I'd rather get this from somewhere other than FOX News's talk radio outlet.

Here is another story I found about it. The question was asked by another student what the views were on gays in Europe, which it seems had to do with the subject being discussed. This boy turned to his friend and and made the statement that he was a Christian and he thought homosexuality was wrong. Seems he just wanted to get his view out there even the question asked had nothing to do with is personal views. A little arrogant perhaps, but then so are a lot of other teenagers. I would like to hear the teachers side of the story but so far I can't find anything. www.kens5.com/news/Texas-student-suspended-for-comment-about-gays-130383793.htmlEdited to add: When I was in school we were not allowed to talk to friends or other students in class. If you were taking part in a class discussion you had to raise your hand and wait for your turn to speak. Talking between students even about the class was prohibited. I'm wondering if this is just a case of him getting in trouble for talking out of turn and it is being blow out of proportion because of the subject matter.

I want to reserve judgement too. After all, there is a huge difference between politely stating an opinion during class (even if he was talking at the wrong time), and blurting out nonsense about "fags" and "AIDS".
After all, when most religious homophobes say they deserve "freedom of speech/religion" in schools, they actually mean "freedom to harass LGBT kids and make them feel uncomfortable".
Think about it this way: If this were a discussion about Jim Crow laws, and the kid said that he supported them because he thought blacks and whites should be separate, would the school send him home? Especially if there were black students there?

Especially if there were black students there? My prediction is that one of two things would happen. 1. Discussion would ensue and get a bit too enthusiastic, thus making any black students uncomfortable, but afraid to speak up for fear of being bullied or getting in trouble. 2. The teacher would overreact, have the kid suspended, and then the school would get sued.

A few girls said that legalizing homosexuality would lead to bestiality because "they're basically the same thing". She got away with that. But then my history teacher verbally kicked her ass, so it's all good. But think about if that happened in any class without a badass teacher. None of my classmates know I'm bisexual. And hearing some idiot blithely compare love between two consenting same-sex adults to something as disgusting (and nonconsensual) as bestiality made me want to smack her upside her fat fundie head.

I'm with pretty much everyone else here, if Fox said that the sky was blue today I'd look out the window to check. There's got to be a lot they're hiding.

Are you even allowed to do that in a school? I can't help but think my school wouldn't have allowed it.
Unless he was saying, "I'm a Christian & so was Nazi Germany," which I doubt any self-respecting Fundie would admit to, it was off-topic. That forces me to continue to regard this as nothing more than bending rules that already exist.
Is it, strictly speaking, "right"? Not really. Do I have the slightest ounce of sympathy for the kid, the kid's parents, or all of the asshole commentors whining about lawyers & the teacher not having been fired? Again, not really.
Oddly enough, I had a few classes where I mostly argued with a friend of mine the whole time. Rarely, if ever, did we get in trouble, & on at least one occasion the teacher found it more interesting than the class discussion & got distracted.

He may have gotten in trouble for speaking out of turn.
But it's too soon to tell.

That's what I was thinking.
There has to be something more to this story...
