It's not really about achieving a goal (although John Quiggan has convincingly argued that they should aim at achieving a Tobin Tax as a short-term gain to unite all the protest). It's about countering the Tea party/Wall Street view that the problem with the economy is that poor people are too lazy and a black democrat is president with the fact that Wall Street is broadly unable or unwilling to do it's job.

I just looked up America's income tax rates. I was pretty blown away. Compare America's highest tax bracket (35% for >$379150) with the highest tax bracket of a similar first world country, Australia (45% for >$180,001) I don't think that something like that would be too onerous for America's wealthy, do you? Heck, even 45% for those earning more than $379150 I could live with. www.moneychimp.com/features/tax_brackets.htmwww.ato.gov.au/individuals/co...tent/12333.htm That reminds me, I've actually graphed out the tax brackets, it looks quite interesting. The increase steep and linear, until income passes $100k. It stays linear, but at a much decreased slope.

That's just the marginal income tax; in reality there are hundreds of tax breaks and loopholes any self respecting millionaire can take advantage of. The biggest ones, like tax-deductible charitable contributions and capital gains tax often means rich folks (with good accountants) often pay far less percentage wise than ordinary folk who don't know/can't take advantage of said breaks.

A small cluster of other military chaps that I know and I are deploying to Wall Street.

We are going in full combat dress uniform. I've already spoken with my lawyer and secured bail. I don't see this going anywhere but south. We fully intend to prevent any police brutality by whatever means neccissary. All of us have developed quite the resistance to pepper spray/tear gas/cs gas over the years. I'll gladly take a shot from either of those instead of a civillian. We are linking up with Marines already on the scene when we get there.

Maybe get one or two people with cameras to follow you if you can.

"Good luck" sounds cheap. So instead I'll write an awkward post.

I'm curious, is this an official deployment or is this you all acting as private citizens to show that even members of the military are pissed off?

This is not an official deployment of the Department of Defense. This is former soldiers who are still "deployment ready" who are tired of this bullshit. As of right now, there are 16 in total. At this point, it's all Marines and Soldiers. All some form of combat infantry.

Ranger Joe, getting someone to film you is a good idea... known fact that pigs are less likely to get rowdy if they're being recorded.
That said... uniformed soldiers resisting the civil power... I don't wanna sound hyperbolic, but thats kinda how civil wars start.
My reservation voiced, good luck, keep us posted please.

Joe, as the grandson of former Army, I hope that you and the others showing up will do a bit of good. And thank you.
