Restaurants are already dickbaskets of truly insurmountable proportions for paying less than half of a legal minimum wage and FORCING their employees to live on tips which, while generally mandated and expected, are not guaranteed. (Especially not in NY and Washington DC or other areas that are likely to have a lot of foreign tourists, because tipping isn't really something that's done in a lot of Europe.) For the very simple reason that we pay decent salaries. Didn't stop me from wanting to pay a tip for such good service.

And their precious snowbux. Actually, what we need to do is index politicians' pay to the minimum wage. Agreed.

I really don't know what this will do because so many of them are wealthy independent of their political career and this would make it even more difficult for non-über rich politicians to get elected to federal office (and it's already difficult enough).

“This is not genuine…”
So much right with that one statement.

That comic strip pretty much sums it up. Internet trolls can be funny. Real life trolls, especially in this situation (and when they apparently believe they're doing good)? Not so much.

Even real-world trolls aren't this bad. At least trolls--online and off--know they're being assholes. People who do shit like this actually think they're helping someone when in fact all they did was absolutely ruin someone's day. The only thing worse than an asshole who doesn't KNOW he's an asshole is an asshole who not only doesn't know they're an asshole but also thinks they're doing something GOOD.

That is debatable. At least someone who thinks they're not an asshole may eventually feel bad & change.

That is debatable. At least someone who thinks they're not an asshole may eventually feel bad & change. That’s true for the people who do not believe themselves to be assholes, but at the same time do not think they are necessarily doing anything good. These people just need it to be pointed out how much of an asshole they are being, and if they actually have any desire to be not an asshole, they will change their behavior. The ones who are assholes but thinks they are doing good first need it to be shown that they are in fact not doing any good. And, unfortunately, once someone has managed to convince themselves an asshole move is good, their sense of what actually is good is skewed and warped. These people will want to continue to try being good in their own warped way, and as such will continue being assholes.

But the asshole who knows he's an asshole & doesn't care is pretty much impossible to sway. At least in terms of appeals to not being an asshole. I suppose you can appeal to something else about them.

I suppose you can appeal to something else about them. I think the best chance you got is if they can at least show some pragmatism by way of “enlightened self interest.”
