Well Sky, I think you should put up some evidence. Because now I think about it, some is kinda sketchy. If it takes time no worries. But I should stop talking now, it's late and my intelligence just keep lowering. ji jingh all. Some of it is from stuff I no longer have access too, such as the short documentaries (AZN went out of business last year) and the vid from my OB class. For the rest, you can either check Wiki or ask around on a dedicated anime-themed board. You'll get told much of the same.

Oh Sky.....stop it. really. YOu had some good speculation but now...just no.
Ironbite-you need to back up your claims with something other then a request to look at wiki or go to an anime-dedicated message board.

Read it. The discussion started when RS and I got to talking about a baby bust that Japan is undergoing and how it's affecting the toy industry. This led to us discussing different points about Japanese society, with an initial emphasis on Japanese business. Given that I'm a business major, this is something that has actually been discussed in more than a few of my classes; my Organizational Behavior class actually featured a 15-minute news video about kairoshi deaths (it was one of several videos that came with the textbook). The rest is stuff that can easily be found on Wiki or that you can learn about by asking around. It's not that hard. I did. And I will commend you on your knowledge. *claps* Bravo. And I will admit that it was a bit my fault that I came into the topic with the attitude that "these are gonna be some people not knowing what they're talking about". So, I'm sorry. However, I stand by my point. I don't see how you can really talk about a culture that you haven't actually experienced. Watching videos, even educational ones, is one thing. Actually living in the day-to-day is another.

Sky, I'm not sure if you know how debate works, but when you say something, you have to back it up with a source. If I say the moon is made of cheese, I have to prove it. I can't just say, "Go look it up." It's called burden of proof. I'm not going to waste my day looking through millions of websites. Post the sources or shut up.

I've known a number of people that live or have lived in Japan through SL, thing is, people love it there. I've never heard one negative thing come from any of them about it.
Right now you're now better than Watson and the SS that spend their spare time preaching japanese steriotypes to their audiences

It's called "I've had a long day, I'm tired, and if I don't log off in about 10 minutes I won't be able to get any sleep before I have to go to work." To start people off, however: Glico Morinaga Case (the bit with the police chief committing suicide has apparently been removed from the article) Amagasaki Rail Crash (this is the one where the engineer was speeding because he was bitched out for being 90 seconds late on a previous run; he overshot the station and had to reverse, and so was trying to make up lost time)

Everyone knows about Japan's high suicide rates and high educational standards. This is nothing secret.

Meanwhile in the US today, another hundred people committed suicide that's not newsworthy, another thousand were killed in car accidents, not newsworthy, and 4 people were shot and killed, also not newsworthy. Durring this time another 100 buglaries were committed and a few thousand viruses were sent to the capitol's computer database, all not newsworthy...because the US is used to blood and gore. Meanwhile, we'll feel free to point our fingers at other nations and say how bad they are

So explain to me how the Japanese are hiding this or have it worse? Everyone pretty much knows what goes on there, anyone can find out vs the US where someone committs suicide or dies, we just don't give a flying fuck

Umm, I hate to break it to you, but weeabos aren't exactly, shall we say, knowledgable on the subject of Japanese culture. On the other hand, if you want to know how to annoy the living shit out of Japanese people, then copy the behaviour of these people, it's sure to do the job!

Oh no people commit suicide in Japan because some people there are unhappy with their lives. That kind of shit doesn't happen anywhere else ever!

To be fair, the suicide rate in Japan is among the highest of industrialized nations, and was sufficiently concerning that the government there launched a 220 million dollar campaign last year to curb the problem.
