Now, if we could just get a ruling on the Prop 8 trial in California, that would be doubly awesome.

And all of the states rights people are saying what right now?
That said, this could very well set a harmful precedent for a national reversal of prop8, as federal definitions of marriage are effectively stuck down here. But given the opposition to it isn't the fact it defines marriage, but rather it grants some significant rights selectively, and causes social harm it may not stand up against it.

The Yahoo! comments thread made me rage.
That said, this is a good day for people who want to marry their important person, even if said important person happens to be the same gender. Do I care who you want to marry? Hell no, since it's not my business. So good for them.
I just wish more people could see it that way.

Well that's wonderful news to wake up to in the morning.
What's the federal implications of this though? Anyone?

I'm hoping it won't affect the fight for national gay marriage because gay marriage will likely have to legalized through the court system (I believe that's how interracial marriage was legalized) DOMA wasn't set up through the courts, so it's a bit different. I'm hoping.

What's the federal implications of this though? Anyone? Here's what I've been able to find out about the implications of this: The reason the Full Faith and Credit Clause wasn't mentioned was because the lawsuits only targeted Section 3 of the Act. That means that while the Federal Government is now required to recognize same-sex marriages performed in Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Iowa and Massachusetts (and grant benefits accordingly), the part about other states not being required to recognize these marriages stands, despite being blatantly unconstitutional. But we were probably going to need a court ruling to get them to do that anyway, so party on.

I can't wait to see how the WBC react to this. If their heads haven't all already exploded.
This is the first time I could say I'm honestly proud of my country since the president was getting a hummer in the Oval Office.
