I was so excited when my friends in the SSA told me about this. Not that I'll go run to Massachusetts and get married, now, but still.

I think I've found my dinner-time entertainment. Look who's fucking talking. In my experience, the religious right is the first to abandon the US constitution when it comes to anything they're not used to. "Ban Muslims!" "Arrest liberals for protesting!" blah blah blah.

The decision was rendered by the Federal District Court for the District of Massachusetts and thus only applies to Massachusetts marriages. The ruling may be stayed on appeal. It is unknown as of yet if the ruling will be appealed or if a stay will be issued.
The section that says that other states are not obligated to recognize other states' same-sex marriages is most likely constitutional (it was not discussed in this case). Congress has the authority to determine which public acts must be recognize between the states:
"Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State. And the Congress may by general Laws prescribe the Manner in which such Acts, Records and Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof."

Gotcha covered. And the Freepers too, for good measure. The decision was rendered by the Federal District Court for the District of Massachusetts and thus only applies to Massachusetts marriages. The ruling may be stayed on appeal. It is unknown as of yet if the ruling will be appealed or if a stay will be issued. I was worried about that. Oh well. Except that, especially in the light of this ruling, this is clearly not an appropriate use of that authority. It says Congress has authority over the process, not that they can pick and choose which ones they want the clause to apply to.

One of all the great mysteries i will never understand. Seriously, Nixon was pretty competent and he knew his thing very well. But for some reason, he is demonized while the really big assholes like Reagan are practically deifyed.

Not like Reagan or, christ, Bush weren't corrupt. I actually am of the opinion that Bush was more corrupt than Nixon. I guess Bush was just better at justifying his corruption.
