What do you think, is it inapproiate for an Atheist billboard during the holiday season?

Personally, I don't particularly care for anyone putting religious messages on billboards. I'm more of the view that such topics are better left as being initiated by someone who is curious about the subject, rather than being advertised.
I'm not one for double standards. Billboards about how great God is are annoying, right?

Far as i'm concerned, it seems kinda rude. But then the other side of me kicks in with it really isn't anything compared to some of the billboards religious groups put up...or harass the lease holders/owners to take down ones they don't like

That board isn't attacking anyone, so the only onces who are butthurt about it are the ones who want to be. If their holidays are ruined after seeing it, they have another problem. I wouldn't compare opposing it to opposing religious billboards, because most people aren't opposing religious billboards in general: "Jesus loves you" is not the same message as "Jesus hates the gays", if you oppose the first message, then I guess to be consistent you should oppose the atheist message as well, but the second one can't be compared to the former, or to an atheist message. Something that basically says that atheism is an option with an attempt of a catchy slogan (not very good IMO) does not intent to harm nor should it reasonably be expected to harm anybody.

I would have preferred "Axial tilt is the reason for the season," but that's just me.

I'm not one for double standards. Billboards about how great God is are annoying, right? Unless they're clever. This one isn't. I would have preferred "Axial tilt is the reason for the season," but that's just me. That one was.

I dunno, this just feels like a way to take a giant poop on other people's party. By and large, I'd have to say that people who celebrate Christmas religiously are quiet and respectful. Putting up a billboard saying that their holiday is bullshit is every inch as impolite as a fundy telling someone they're going to hell for X reason.
It is also similar to those fundies who say atheists know a higher power exists but deny him so they can live it up in sin. "You KNOW its a myth" is saying "you know your religion is bullshit, just admit it", every bit as douchey.
I don't like it when ANYONE pulls the "they do it, so we can do it" or "it's ok when WE do it, not them" card.

Billboards about how great God is are annoying, right? This is pretty much how I think exactly--I'm not fond of moral, religious, or philosophical ideals being broadcast on billboards. Save those for missing person notices and advertisements. I don't care if you believe that kittens and bunnies are the fluffy-cuddly wonderfulness of all wonderfulness, broadcasting your belief on a twenty-foot billboard counts as 'shoving it in other people's faces' and it's rude. Having said that, I'm petty and I'm all for a little tit-for-tat. If religious asshats and morality-police of all kinds are allowed to use billboards to spew their bullshit all over the place, then it should be totally okay for atheists to do the same thing and those who whine about it should be shown the first amendment and the finger.

It's like they want to give the twats something to bitch about. This is more or less the kind of thing that the various previous billboards had been painted as, the "You're not alone" and "Just be Good" signs. Now idiot throws up a sign that it's not hard to see would offend a lot of people, with a fairly decent basis.
The blow back on this should be impressive.

The blow back on this should be impressive. And, hopefully, hilarious.

I think the point of these billboards is to let people who know that it's a myth also know that there is a community of like-minded people. One of the problems with atheism is that we don't have the social outlet a place of worship provides. These billboards catch people's attention and let them know about the community. The butthurting of Christians is just an added bonus; they'll be butthurt anyway so in for a penny, in for a pound.

I agree with Napoleon. I mean, how can you be against Christmas being commercial and still use capitalism's number 1 tool?
I'm not a big fan of institutionalized religion, and Atheism is no different. Religion is for an individual to decide for themselves, and advertising your claims all over a billboard is a bit overbearing.
Question for Shiftyeyes: What exactly in Atheism do you worship?
