Update: The Conservatives have managed to get a majority. Today is the official date for our 41st general election. I hope all of my fellow Canadians will be voting. For those who are still undecided, CBC has a nice little tool to help aid in your decision: www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canadavotes2011/Right now, the seat projections have a Conservative minority, with the NDP as the official opposition. Rumours of a Layton-headed coalition abound, though it's difficult to determine whether or not there's any validity to those. It does seem that the Conservatives are feeling rather threatened by the NDP at this point, although personally, I don't think the NDP will win. I suspect that the projections, while not necessarily accurate in the specific number of seats gained/lost by each party, will be accurate in determining the overall outcome. I think we're looking at another Conservative minority, with Layton as the opposition leader. Still, until the final ballots are counted, it's anyone's game. The politics around the elections this time around have been rather interesting, so I'm hoping that we'll see a better turn-out than last time. Quite frankly, I don't think we'll see an end to the slap-fights in parliament until Canadians step up to the plate and instigate a change. In closing: Vote! Apathy is the leading cause of stagnant Parliaments, and stagnant Parliaments are the leading cause of apathy, so let's break the cycle. Doesn't matter who you support, just get out of and vote! This includes all you lurkers, too. Edit: Yes, it's today now.

I'm most likely voting for the Liberals, though I'll be reviewing various debates and whatnot before I head out to vote tomorrow. I've had some trouble deciding who to vote for this time around. I don't mind the NDP. I'm a bit hesitant about some of their policies, and not terribly fond of Layton, but I do like their sense of social justice. My ideal party would have the concern for the environment of the Greens, the social justice from the NDP, the balance from the Liberals, and the Tories' ability to organize themselves under a strong leader. "You may say I'm a dreamer..."

NDP for the win. I've gotten 3 calls from the Conservative Party in the last 36 hours. Every call ended with "Yeah, I'm a registered NDP voter" '"...click'.
I know the NDP won't win in this Liberal riding, but it is good to see such a strong showing this time around.

Hey, don't complain about being in a Liberal riding. You could be stuck in Stephen Harper's riding... like I am.

Vote, fuckers.
I'm working the polls so I already voted. Honestly, though, I think it's safe to say that Harper's getting at least another minority. Which is going to suck, because then we'll be back at the polls before September and elections are hella expensive.
I think the orange sweep can be attributed to people just not liking Ignatieff that much. He's not a very charismatic guy and people would rather go orange than blue, especially if they've spent the last five years Tory bitching. They might end up as the official opposition.
To add some perspective, I've lived in an NDP provincial government for the last couple years, and all the criticisms are kind of true. They promise a lot and then realize running a government is hard. We haven't even gotten the full audit they've promised, let alone a balanced budget, and their members steal just as much public funds as the last government (and seem to get caught way easier).

I was once asked how we can overcome ignorance and apathy. I replied that I don't know, and I don't care.

This Orange Crush, as it has been called, has been the most exciting thing to come out of politics in a while. It's gonna be interesting tomorrow night, that's for sure.

If Layton won, I would be terribly pleased to hear him say, "Orange you glad you voted for us?"

I thought about voting. But as I may tell my social studies teacher if she asks if I'm voting it goes against everything I stand for.

If Layton won, I would be terribly pleased to hear him say, "Orange you glad you voted for us?" The GG promptly dissolves his government.

Apparently I'm straight up NDP, once my abject non-opinions on Quebec and parliamentary reform are accounted for. My marker is literally right on top of the sign.
About the only place the NDP and I disagree is on whether Canada should seek to strengthen economic ties with the US.

Good thing I've already voted in the advance polls, so my ballot has already been cast.
