What does the Geneva Convention say on torture?
Of course if a country uses torture it can hardly complain if torture is used against it own soldiers/citizens....

Roll on the middle ages and the Inquisition.
Even the Vatican, after its fashion, accepts evolution!
Quite honestly, I would hold that if these young people are to get a proper education the teaching of (every and any) religion in schools needs to be banned. Let parents be responsible for it, as in other countries. Otherwise heaven help America in say 30 years time.
In France, that cross-wearing it - just as with the Muslim head scarf.
Religious propaganda is not education - bottom line.

Got it in one, Dantesvirgil. Thanks for putting it so succinctly.
There is a problem with the word 'state' In America it means a political unit that is part of the overall country. In other places 'state' means the whole country as a political unit. So we are indeed talking on the level of the state acting out the will of the citizens, on behalf of the citizens.

Sure, the bible says homosexuality is an abomination. But so is getting a haircut, eating pork or shellfish, wearing clothes of mixed fibres etc, etc. And there is no distinction as to which of these abomination is worse than any other. Consequently we have prima facie cherry picking going on here, that is a clear indication of the fixation and prejudice of homophobes. The pathetic creature in the clip has been brainwashed. There will be a psychological price that he will eventually have to pay. Self-hatred is such a sad thing. It is particularly so when it stems from an inability to accept one's true nature. Peachers/religion are probably guilty of causing psychological harm. It doesn't appear to be a crime, though, so there is no retribution.

Perhaps something original is to be preferred
Nicholas and Alice
A small stone stands there Alone in simple dignity. Gold letters glister bright On black, polished granite.
A peaceful place, Overhung by pines – Fit for remembrance, And for a silent tear.
Here they await the Dawn Of Eternity’s bright morn. They hear no tread Of footstep overhead,
Nor, in profoundest rest, Do they mark above Floral tokens Laid in filial love.
Nicholas and Alice, Names sacred to their sons, Resting in serenity Until Forever comes.

The Sultana who reigns in Baroda Has constructed the oddest pagoda. She festooned the walls Of its halls with the balls And the tools of the fools who bestrode her.
OR
There was a young man of Begal Who had a hexagonal ball; And the cube of its weight, Times his pecker, plus eight, Was ten time the square root of f*ck all.
OR (and finally)
There was a young sailor named Bates, Who danced the fandango on skates. But a slip on his cutlass Rendered him nutless, And practic'lly useless on dates.

Piano, Organ (as in pipes), choirmaster, composer, singer, none of which are particularly portable or useful at parties.

Executions, whether public or not, are state events. That means that the hand of every man, woman and child in the country is on the lever/trigger that sends a sentient being into oblivion. And even in this day and age, not every execution guarantees a quick, clean death.
Personally I have no wish that I should even at a distance be connected with the taking of life. (Hell, I even lift spiders out of the bath rather than flushing them away down the tubes.) But in Europe most of us seem to have left behind the society that demands the futile shedding of blood. Nothing will bring back a life that has been taken by a murderer. It seem to me a futile obscenity that another life should be demanded to achieve...what? Pure vengeance seems to be the only reason. Certainly there is nothing positive such as deterrence - never has been, and never will be. I find, rightly or wrongly, that there is a distinct similarity among those who advocate the death penalty to Les Tricoteuses (the hags who knitted at the foot of the guillotine) and to the aficionados of the Roman arena - a kind of Todesfreude. Perhaps in 2000 years we have not really advanced much as a species.

And having to live here, I can only confirm what's said above. If it's any small consolation, it does breed some pretty virulent antifundies too. Mar Thusa?

What a relief to find that there is still a form of FSTDT available. Odd, though, just to pull a plug and leave loyal readers/writers completely in the dark about it. Hope it wasn't a mini Rapture that caused it. However, I am learning things about FSTDT than I ever knew before, and I see lots of names that I never saw on the old main board. My fear, though is that we may lose some people because of what has happened.
Distind, I'm sorry, I;ve never even heard of you before. It seems like you are a very important person, so I bow my forhead to the ground and burn incense at your shrine. Hope you like incense. OTOH, if it gives more power to your magic wand/miracle stick, I'll burn some more.
I hope the Secret Copy of the Real Gay Agenda hasn't been lost in this upheaval!

I had no idea that something liket this was in the wind. I've been waiting and wondering for a couple of days what had happened. Then when I cottoned on, it looked like the site was gone forever... until I cliked on practically every link. I'm delighted to have found the Refugee site! I feel like I;ve been Raptured!
