Uhm, all of those are problems. Does it mean we need to add on to that problem? Minorities are a problem? I knew what you meant, but at the same time, I don't think it'll have much of an effect.

"Not realise"? One would think the bit where in one's college application one is asked questions like "country of birth" and "show 100 points of ID" they might work it out. Unless of course the child was lied too or just assumed. It's happened before where someone didn't find out their out country of birth until late in life. I should also point out illegal or not, education makes any immigrant MORE productive and contribute MORE in taxes. Illegal immigrants contribute billions of state coffers and the more educated they are the more they contribute. So it's a bit dishonest to frame this as charity for undocumenteds. The state (and the people in it) as a whole stands to benefit. It seems if the people of California want to over turn something, their ass backwards tax laws would be a more productive start. Booley answers that one Art - Illegal or not education makes the immigrant more productive.

Nope. I won't be supporting this petition. I know a few illegal immigrant college students. They have worked just as hard as anyone to get there and deserve some help.
OR
You could make it easier for all illegal immigrants to get their papers, then the Dream act would be unnessessary.

Exactly.
See, I'd be all against this measure, but the thing is, you have to jump through an ASTOUNDING amount of hoops if you have a hope of immigrating here. Chances are if you have anything less than a Masters in Math, Science, or Engineering, you won't make it. Plus there are quotas and whatnot.
Again, I'd be all against this measure....
...If it weren't for the fact that the argument against it is "WORK HARDER YOU PEONS AND THEN YOU CAN IMMIGRATE HERE LEGALLY LIKE A GOOD LITTLE IMMIGRANT!"
To which I'd respond, "Work harder at scrubbing the shit off those McDonald's toilets and then maybe you'll have a good-paying job in your field and a way to pay off your college loans someday. I have no sympathy for you if that's your line of logic."
The problem with both is that people don't have the means, the money, or the resources. And desperate people do desperate things.

Man, the double standards are astounding here. Many of you guys post topics about how the 'little guy' is being trampled on by government, and that we should support them, but as soon as it becomes apparent the 'little guy' appears to have done nothing but have parents who sneaked across the border for a better life, you draw the line.
In short, you're sounding dangerously like those folks in Arizona.

I feel sorry for you, Art. I really do. Behold, the secular equivalent of "I'll pray for you". Actually, I'd say it sounds more like something from the comments section. As I see it, Zachski doesn't feel sorry about the majority of posters, OP included, that are currently disagreeing with him on a complex issue of human rights and citizen interests. He only feels sorry about the guy who repeatedly, consistently, expressed an complete lack of consideration for an entire side of the equation. "GTFO", indeed.

Except the government has a responsibility towards its own citizens, the poor included, to Provide adequate social services to at the very least keep them from ending up homeless. Illegals, on the other hand, it has no responsibility towards other than to deport them. Not to mention, and I emphasise this part especially, there is no inherent right for people to immigrate to America or anywhere else. It may be unfortunate for some who wish to immigrate legally but can't, however that is most definitely not a valid justification for entering the country illegally.

And I'm sure that those women in some Middle Eastern countries should be just fine and dandy with not being able to drive. After all, it's illegal for them to drive.

So glad we've got two Australians wanting to do what's right for America. Meanwhile I'll go hang with a big ass lady in New York.
Ironbite-give me your poor, your tired, your huddled masses...well unless they're dirty Mexicans then they can just go piss off.
