There is also the matter of simplifying things and accidently over simplify them and risk making the information you are giving inaccurate. Or simplifying things too much and come across as condescending due to not being sure what people understand. It's a hard line to walk.

No, I'm saying that the attitude presented was one of, "I have a fancy science degree, I'm better than you, and I'll prove it by posting an incomprehensible wall of text." The same attitude that Vene displays here, the same condescending tone of, "if you don't understand the jargon, you're stupid." That is what I'm taking issue with. And his sources are needlessly complicated. For example, the explanation of the function of SRY he gave was overly long and complicated. I dug up a simple, two sentence explanation in no time at all on Google, but I guess since it wasn't full of technical jargon, it didn't count. Vene has also gone out of his way to post things that he KNOWS nobody will understand, then lords it over us, like he's just so much better because he has a piece of paper from a school. My problem is that VENE is a condescending, arrogant jackass. Hey at least Vene backed up what he said on the RR evolution thread. Isn't that a good thing?

Vene has also gone out of his way to post things that he KNOWS nobody will understand, then lords it over us, Links please. Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean everybody else finds it similarly incomprehensible*, and it certainly doesn't mean Vene knew it would be too technical and posted it so that he could go "Haha! I'm smarter than you!". *I agree with Bluefinger on this. This article is too technical for you? Really? In all of Vene's posts that I've read, he's come across as exactly the opposite. You, on the other hand, have quite often come across as... how do I put this... a condescending, arrogant jackass. Yes, that.

Vene was acting pretty arrogant on the thread in RR, but I couldn't tell until he admitted it, so I'm not sure where this criticism is coming from.

Nope, no next time. I had my fun. Also, I was babying them, they can't handle even light criticism. I've been in discussions with scientists, we're vicious. Them? Telling them I think differently is a huge affront. Let's be completely and totally fair, I do know more than them. I know a hell of a lot more than them. I am justified in my arrogance. I didn't thing you were being arrogant at all. You were just pointing out that people have different areas of expertise. You even gave an example of an area that you are not knowledgeable in. Some of the RRers were just looking for a reason to not like you (a few of them defended you, which I found encouraging). * * * It's kinda sad. They started out asking some reasonable questions. For a little while there, it actually looked like they were interested in learning, but then it quickly devolved into GodJesusBible flaming. No doubt those defenders were promptly banned afterwards

An axe that needed to be ground and a hatchet that needs to be burried (possibly in the ground) Vene did basically the same thing I do when someone asks me about history, guns, armor and stuff like that. I start racking off a rant about it while they're left there wondering what the hell all these terms mean while I figure it's common knowledge

Am I makaing any more sense?

Intentionally? No, what they will call arrogance, I could just as easily call confidence. But, remember, pride is a sin. So, arrogant.

This is the perennial argument of a certain steve53 on RR: he believes that pride in one's intellectual capacities is the primary failing of intellectuals. In general, they don't really separate pride from confidence through experience. Still, Vene was somewhat cavalier with his credentials on RR. But, wmdkitty is incorrect in saying that Vene's biology-oriented posts are incomprehensible. I haven't read any that stray too far from secondary school biology.

They are, as Christians, supposed to believe that they aren't any better than anyone else. That's what humility is. Anyone who "got butthurt" over Vene's comment he does know his biology quite well is pretty much dripping with hubris.
It might have sounded somewhat pretentious (if you look at that community) to say that he knew his biology better than others, but no one should have become so upset over it.

Consider my post an open letter. And where they're prepared to throw out the wife and 3 kids with the bathwater, I'm not.

I think we can reach a basic consensus in thus: Vene's post could be construed as being kind of arrogant, but it was nothing to get so pissy over.
