]It sounds like the Decemberists wanted to make a post-rock song. Now that would be interesting to hear them do. The Decemberists new album takes them away from their folk-indie roots. But not in post-rock direction.

Bands I've seen live..? Hm, a whole bunch, but very few that are big and famous :)
The few that I've seen that I guess that someone have heard about are Rammstein and Depeche Mode, and some of you might be familiar with Welle:Erdball or maybe even Miss Kittin & the Hacker or Cat Rapes Dog.
The band that I've seen live the most times is S.P.O.C.K, but I'd be surprised if anyone here happened to know about them :) They're not very good at the actual music, but their act is wonderfully entertaining and they're great guys.
Oh, and I've also seen Zeromancer several times. Hot Norwegian guys who seem totally unable to wear shirts when they play their music - that's a live show to enjoy.

Oh, I forgot about this one. Does it still count if I sat in my car and listened? Kansas came to my college town, but I couldn't get anyone to go with me, nor did I ever find out how much tickets were. It was an outdoor concert, so I parked behind the stage and sat in my car and listened. That's so resourceful and brilliant, I'm gonna say yes it does count!

Brett Michaels of Poison/Rock of Love is playing Riverfest walking distance from my house next month.
I'm morbidly curious, but don't really feel like dishing 50 bucks for the wife and I.

Went to Gigantour last year and got to see High on Fire, Job for a Cowboy, Children of Bodom, In Flames and Megadeth.
And when I was 11, I saw Weird Al.

It's been a while since I've been to a concert, but I've seen a few:
Led Zepplin Black Sabbath Edgar Winter Deep Purple Kiss (4 or 5 times) Golden Earring Rush Foghat Three Dog Night (my first concert) Glenn Frey (post-Eagles) Aerosmith Black Oak Arkansas Brownsville Station Allman Brothers Ted Nuggent
I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. And I'm sure a lot of the younger members have never heard of some of these bands, just like I've never heard of some of the bands they've seen. But most of these were pretty big names in the 70s.

I've heard some of their music. Doesn't sound brilliant, but the lyrics are pretty entertaining. As for bands I've seen live, well I haven't seen too many, but I got to a few decent shows last year... Assemblage-23 AngelTheory (Australian EBM, he opened for A23) Later in the year, VNV-Nation, second time they'd been in Australia, first time in my city. Had a few bands from Europe a couple of months later. Saw Covenant/Diary of Dreams/Haujobb in October. There don't seem to be any international acts planned for this year though (that I know of).

It's not a band but I saw Tim Minchin (skeptic and atheist musician and comedian) play on Sunday night.

You won't like my answer. 2001--Barenaked Ladies, "Maroon" tour (I "missed out" on the Celine Dion concert that same year. My mom and brother begged me to go, so I could say I'd gone. I said no because it was a school night. In retrospect, I did the right thing.) 2004--My Morning Jacket, Switchfoot (Birmingham's "City Stages" music festival. Because of work, I missed out on a lot of good bands.) 2006--I went to City Stages again. Can't remember the name of the bands I saw, but they sucked. Actually, I take it back--I do remember Kid Rock--he sucked. 2007--Tool, "10,000 Days" tour (Sheer, mind-crippling AWESOME) Last Saturday--Some of my dad's friends from work, at one of their houses. It was fun, there were hors d'ouvres. I got drunk to jazz and classic rock. And it was free. :3 I would have gone to Nightwish's concert the other year, but I didn't find out about it until after the fact. Similarly, I missed the Disturbed concert the other month because I was visiting my boyfriend back in Birmingham. Next time I get the chance to see either of those two bands though, I'm going for it.
